Hello Parents and Guardians,
What a great start we have had to the 2024-2025 school year! We kicked off the year with another great freshmen orientation day led by our student leaders. The Class of 2028 brings a ton of energy and under the leadership of our upperclassmen, they are on track to carry on the rich tradition of Red River High. Homecoming Week just wrapped up and Rider Pride was on FULL display. The week was filled with creative dress-up days, lunchroom games, a social media blitz, and an overwhelming amount of school spirit. The annual Powderpuff game did not disappoint and was a battle to the finish, but similar to last year, we had some issues with the scoreboard and are not exactly sure who won the game, but appreciate all of those involved in making it a great night! The week was capped off with our homecoming pep rally where the student council did an amazing job organizing a spirit-filled event that was the perfect way to end a great week. At the conclusion of the pep rally, Prince Matthew Dosch and Princess Elory Gardner crowned this year’s Homecoming King and Queen, Jacob Chine and Brenna Shock. Overall it was an amazing week filled with rider pride!
We are also coming up on tournament season for our fall athletics. Girls Golf finished 3rd at this year's East Region meet with Sophie Brakke, Ella Speidel, and Lauren Soholt being named the conference team. Sophie and Ella have also earned All-State honors, and Sophie was named Senior Athlete of the Year. We wish them well as they compete in the final day of the state tournament in Mandan today. The football team is currently 5-0 and are the #1 ranked team in Class AA. This Friday is the 28th annual Cushman Classic and it is looking to be another great battle between your Roughriders and Grand Forks Central. Stop by tailgating for FREE food and games from 5:00pm-6:30pm. Boys soccer secured the Cushman Cup for another year and look to secure a top 4 EDC finish and state tournament berth at tonight's matchup. Boys tennis is currently the #1 team in the state and will open EDC this Thursday in Fargo vs. Wahpeton. Both the boys' and girls' XC teams are off to a great start this year with both teams seeing individuals ranked in the top 10 state poll and the boys team is currently ranked in the top 3. They just hosted the annual Border Battle XC Meet in which Grand Forks welcomed over 2,000 runners to the state’s largest cross country meet! Congrats to the GFC and RRHS XC coaching staff on putting together an amazing event! Volleyball is currently 8-6 overall and seeing a young and inexperienced roster make great strides to put themselves in a state tournament contending spot come November. Finally, girls swimming is off to a great start and are entering the heart of their season looking to improve each and every day!
October also brings the concert and show season. The students have been putting in a ton of effort getting ready for the first concerts of the year and Mr. McFarlane has the fall production “The Somewhat True Tale of Robin Hood” setting itself up to be a great show that kicks off October 24th! Our drumline and pep band have had a busy start to the year performing at multiple events, including the Potato Bowl Parade. Our Red River singers have also had a busy month performing the anthem at many events to kick off this year. All our groups are gearing up for a busy month of concerts. The dates for those upcoming concerts are below. Good luck to all of our fine arts students! Orchestra (October 14th) Choir (October 21st) Jazz Band (October 28th) Band (November 4th).
