We have a great week ahead for our school. Spring athletic activities start Today. We have the ACT and the Black History program taking place on Tuesday, and multiple performing arts performances taking place throughout the week. We also only have two more weeks until the end of the third quarter, so please continue to work with your student to increase academic achievement! As always, we thank you for your support. It is not too late to order your cap and gown for graduation. The link that we sent out earlier was not working , Here is the new link to get your cap/gown ordered or you can call them directly at 1-785-843-2967 and order it over the phone. Please take care of this as soon as possible.

The SMN Girls Soccer team is selling spirit wear. The online store will be open until Friday March 4th. Click on the link below and purchase some really great stuff.

Seniors and Parents of the north community, the senior class is having a winter apparel fundraiser. You have the option of ordering a Sherpa, Windbreaker, or a hoodie of your choice. Students can pick up a form to pre-order their merch in room 112. This fundraiser ends Wednesday, March 2nd. Order yours now!

March 16th, 2022 – (8am-3pm) Lunch will be provided.

2. Once the appointment is made you will receive:

1. Confirmation text of your appointment date/time.
2. Email with instructions and the link to complete required pre-registration paperwork.
3. Location of the site and a reminder 1 hour before the appointment.

1. Arrive at drive-thru testing location at SMECEC/Broadmoor 6701 W 83rd St. on your designated appointment date/time.
2. Testing site is located behind the building.
3. Remain in your car for testing personnel to assist you.

Parents and Students,

Food Deliveries from Door Dash, Uber Eats, etc. are not allowed at SM North. Please encourage your student to refrain from ordering food for delivery. The delivery drivers will be turned away due to not having proper approved identification and this becoming a logistical issue. We appreciate your help in this matter.

Each year, we have been blessed enough to have generous folks who come forward to sponsor a Shawnee Mission North yearbook for a child who otherwise wouldn't be getting one.

In the last few weeks, I've had children approach me about how to get a Shawnee Mission North yearbook when they can't afford to get one.

It's for this very purpose that our Shawnee Mission North Yearbook Angel program exists. You can purchase a 2022 yearbook and we will get it into the hands of a deserving student.

To become a yearbook angel simply:

1) Go Online at www.yearbookforever.com

2) For Yearbook Angel sponsorships, enter “Yearbook” for student first name, “Angel” for last name, and “Staff” for grade. We will make sure it goes to a deserving student.

Thank you to all parents who have turned in updated vaccination records for our SMN students!

We still have quite a few students who are missing at least one vaccine.

Please help us out in the nurse’s office and send any updated vaccine records to valsnow@smsd.org .

Our next exclusion date for SMSD is coming up quickly in January.

PLEASE, if you’ve been emailed or contact by phone about a missing vaccine, try to get that done as soon as possible.

Our Johnson County Health Department is a good resource for updating vaccines, as is Walgreens, CVS, Mercy and Truth Clinics.

Vaccines can also be obtained at our Health Partnership Clinic at SMW on Thursdays during clinic hours from 11am to 3pm

We have rescheduled our leg. meeting to March 3, during late start.

On March 31st we have some VERY exciting news that we are bringing back the regatta event! It will happen in the SMN pool and all teams will get a chance to build a boat out of cardboard

and race across the pool for the ultimate prize. More details about time, rules, and how to sign up will be out in the following weeks!

• ACT- Students who signed up for the March 1st ACT have received an email (2/18/22) from Dr. Brogdon. This email is the confirmation of their registration and gives the time and date of the test. Please check with your student to confirm they have received this email. At this time the sign-up window has closed for students have not already signed up, but students can request to be placed on a waiting list. Addiitonal questions about registration can go to LauraBrogdon@smsd.org. Specific details about the test on March 1st will be emailed by the end of the day on February 25th.

• Kansas State Assessments- State Assessments will begin shortly after returning from spring break. Please take note of the following student grade levels and courses that will participate this spring:
• 10th Grade ELA Assessment: March 29-April 1
• 10th Grade Math Assessment: April 5- April 8
• 11th Grade Science Assessment: April 11-April 14

Student Scholarships

In partnership with Capital Federal Savings, the KSHSAA will award True Blue Scholarships intended to support Kansas High School graduates in postsecondary efforts. This one-time scholarship is for students graduating during the 2021-22 school year. These funds will be made payable to a two-year or four-year accredited college, university or technical school in the name of the selected student. Awards are non-renewable, one-time scholarships in the amount of $2000 provided for a student in each activity administered by the -KSHSAA. Funds for these scholarships are possible through the partnership between Capitol Federal Savings and the Kansas State High School Activities Association. The application is now open and due March 1, 2022.

• The varsity boys basketball closed out the regular season with losses to Olathe South and SM East.
• The varsity girls’ basketball team lost to Olathe South and @ SM East on Friday evening.
• The Bowling Bison competed at the Regional Tournament this past week at Olathe Lanes East! The boys team placed 10thand was led by Freshman Aaron Salvino with a 546 series. The ladies team placed 5th and was led by Senior Alyssa Williams with a 590 series. Alyssa also placed 4th individually and earned a spot to compete at the State Championship on Thursday, March 3rd at Northrock Lanes in Wichita, Kansas. Hoping to bring home another medal!
• Boys and Girls Wrestling: Congrats to Jack Taylor at 170 and Ke'Juan Blake at 220 for competing in the KSHSAA Wrestling Championships this past weekend. Both young men went 0-2 but gained valuable experience.

• Spring Sports Tryouts begin on Monday, February 28, 2022

• National letter of Intent is scheduled for Wednesday, April 27

All students participating in athletics must have a KSHSAA Physical Form AND Concussion Form on file in the office prior to the first tryout/practice. Per KSHSAA, the annual history and physical examination shall not be taken earlier than May 1 preceding the school year for which it is applicable. Lastly, student athletes must have passed 5/7 classes from the preceding semester to be eligible. If your student-athlete is interested in participating in a spring sport please have them contact the varsity coach directly via email. Practices begin on Monday, February 28th and typically range from 3:00-5:30 pm. Spring sports occur outside so make sure your student is dressed for the Kansas weather.

• Search SMSD (Shawnee Mission School District) > Shawnee Mission North > Eventually it will ask you for a “Pairing Code”
• To find your student’s “Pairing Code”

1. In your student’s Canvas account have your student click on “Account” (Top Left)
2. Click on “Settings” > then click on “Pair with Observer” (Right side)
3. Enter this “Pairing code” when prompted in your Canvas Parent App.

• Note that each parent needs a different code, therefore repeating this process to generate a different code. If more than one student, you will be prompted to “add student” on the app. Repeat the process to generate their observer code.
• If your student will not provide the code to you, please reach out to the school to get the Pairing Code.
