New Middle School Staff
What's going on in class?
The staff and students have been building relationships!
I have been able to see some great things happen this week in the building! It has been great to see the forming of relationships between staff and students. The staff are always discussing ways to make connections to their students. We want to focus on providing them the educational opportunities based on grade level standards.
Here is a link to the school district calendar for the year.
Students have been working on Exact Path diagnostic testing. They focus on English/Language Arts/Reading & Math. We are able to develop individual learning paths for students focusing on remediation and enrichment. Students will have goals to meet each quarter. Students who meet their goals are given a quarter reward. We have some classes that have finished testing, but others are still working.
We have many construction projects going on throughout the school district. The middle school has a new redesigned front entrance, and office. We are focusing on school safety and security. We also will implement the Raptor system as our check in/check out program. We are excited about the school improvements. (Construction continues)
We were able to have our gym floor refinished this summer. Please be advised that we have developed policy around using our new gym floor. No food or drink is allowed in the gym. Students should wear non-marking sole tennis shoes on the floor. This policy is posted in the gym, and will be discussed with our students. Middle School Volleyball begins playing next week. Clothes worn in PE need to follow the school dress code. You can find the dress code policy in the handbook.
One of our focuses this year is on Student Attendance. We are aiming for 95% or higher. We will be giving out attendance rewards over the course of the school year! Today, we enjoyed Popsicles! Next week's treat..........maybe scary......Friday is the 13th!
School Pictures have been schedule for September 11th. All pictures must be ordered online. See the picture on this newsletter for ordering information.
The 5th grade field trip has been scheduled for Monday, September 23rd. See the picture below for information. (Since the field trip is scheduled on a Monday, parents/guardians will be responsible for transportation to school and transportation home from school after the field trip.)

.....Middle School Sports have gotten off quickly this week: Football/Volleyball/Cross Country/Cheer! All the necessary paperwork must be submitted prior to the athlete practicing. Thank you to the coaches, parents, and families who support our middle school athletes......we couldn't do it without you!
We have a HOME Football game tonight! Please be aware that students cannot be dropped off at the football game. They must be accompanied by an adult. Students should come to the game to sit and watch the game. Balls of any kind are not allowed to be brought into the football game. Students should not be running around in the grassy areas on the hillside, next to the press box, or by the the concession stand. Parents/Guardians please supervise your students. We want to create a positive experience for our families as well as our visitors. Please view the Spectator/Fan Policy here.
You can review policies/procedures in the Middle School Handbook.

Congratulations to Mrs. Steffens.......our Middle School Science Teacher

The Science News Learning Ambassadors are educators from across the country who have been inspiring their middle and high school science students with Science News journalism for years! They are Science News Learning expert teachers who want to share their love of teaching science literacy using current, real-life examples with others throughout the school year. The School Dress Code..........questions? (Please read below)
Dress Code..............a focus, and it is enforced, please help us by looking at your students outfit.
The Grandview R-II Board of Education has established the following dress requirements:
Shorts and dresses may be worn if they are not short shorts or mini-dresses. As a guideline, dresses are to be no shorter than mid-thigh. Shorts should be fingertip length.
“Net" shirts with large openings around the arms are not to be worn unless it is over other suitable clothing.
No spaghetti straps, tank, tube, halter, or off the shoulder tops are to be worn. Tops must have a 2 inch wide strap to be worn.
Blouse-shirt length must be worn so that the bottom of the shirt or blouse comes to the top of the pants. Midriffs must be completely covered. No visible cleavage is allowed.
Hats and head coverings including hoodies are not to be worn inside the school building.
Any clothing/dress articles or appearance that disrupt the normal educational process will not be allowed.
Clothing which has alcohol or tobacco advertisement, inappropriate statements or offensive wording, unacceptable pictures or suggestions, are not to be worn.
No student on school property or at school functions shall wear, possess, use, distribute, display or sell clothing, jewelry, large chains, emblems, bandages, symbols, signs or other things, which are evidence of membership of affiliation in any gang or cult.
Body piercing that becomes a safety issue is prohibited.
Any jewelry that makes distracting noises, espouses violence, suggests obscenity, or poses as a possible hazard to the wearer or other students shall be prohibited.
No see through clothing unless over other suitable clothing.
Leggings/Jeggings must have appropriate coverage
No pajamas, bath or pajama robes to worn except on designated days
No blankets are allowed at school
It is the responsibility of the staff and administration to set the tone for the educational progress of the students at Grandview School District. Extreme styles, fads, or circumstances not covered, or those that constitute a threat to health or safety, will be treated as inappropriate by the administration or staff. Student dress should lend itself to positive health and safety while meeting basic social expectations. Failure to comply with the guidelines set forth could subject the student to disciplinary action. The principal or his designated staff will make the final decision at the school level as to whether specific attire is disruptive and/or inappropriate. If a student or parent is in doubt about the appropriateness of an item, the best decision is to leave the item at home.
Character Word of the Month...............Positive Attitude (September)
SEPTEMBER: POSITIVE ATTITUDE
With our attitudes and actions, we determine what our experiences will be like.
There are many things YOU can do to improve your attitude. Make a list of people
or things you are grateful for. Send a thank you note to a person who has made a
positive difference in your life. Exercise or take a walk to clear your mind. Try on
a smile and notice how good you feel. Recycle negative emotions into positive actions. Recycle
frustration into determination to do your best work. It’s hard to have a positive attitude if you
lack motivation!
