February Director's Note
In this note, I will focus on another one of the three dimensions of student achievement: High Quality Student Work. The EL model compels our students to produce high-quality work that demonstrates complexity, craftsmanship, and authenticity. Teachers at Palouse Prairie support and guide students to create products for audiences beyond teachers and parents. Creating real work that makes a difference in the community motivates students to meet standards and engage in revision. Through this process, students develop perseverance and realize they can do more than they thought possible. You may see examples of this when your student completes final products, participates in expeditions, or during student led conferences.
This month’s Design Principle is The Having of Wonderful Ideas. Teaching in EL Education schools fosters curiosity about the world by creating learning situations that provide something important to think about, time to experiment, and time to make sense of what is observed. A great book to read with your children about this Design Principle is What Do You Do with an Idea? by Kobi Yamada. Click on the link below to listen and watch a read aloud of the book. The kindergarten crew will share how they demonstrate The Having of Wonderful Ideas at our February 24th Community Circle starting at 8:30. Feel free to join us! After our community circle at 9:30 we will hold our first tour for prospective PPCS families. Any 4th or 5th grade guardians that would like to attend the tour as you are starting to think about Middle School at PPCS are welcome to join as well.
Tour Dates:
February 24th at 9:30
March 10th at 9:30
March 29th at 9:30
Warmly,
Sara Beggs, PhD
