A Message from the Principal
Dear Turrill Families,
I hope you are having a fantastic end to your summer break and that your children are finding a little time for reading in between summer activities. It's almost that time of year again - BACK-TO-SCHOOL TIME. YAY!
If you are a returning family, welcome back. If you are new to Turrill, we can't wait to me meet you!
It's going to be a fantastic 2022-2023 school year. One of the most exciting things about back-to-school time is finding out who your teacher is. Please don't worry, class placement and bussing information will be on its way very soon. Until then, enjoy the last moments that summer has to offer. We look forward to seeing you very soon!
Warmly,
Kelly Vangel
Principal, Turrill Elementary
Class Schedules
Class schedules will be sent out via S'More on Monday, July 18th. Please note that we are still in the process of assembling some of our teaching staff. If you receive a schedule that has "to be determined" in place of the teacher, it simply means that we are in the hiring process for that section.
Office hours begin Tuesday, July 19th from 7:00-3:30 until school begins. Then, our office hours are 8:00-4:30.

LCS Super Summer Success Reading Program - Oceans of Possibilities
We had 37 students attend our first Popsicles with the Principal Book Swap - Let's double that number this time. I can't eat all of these popsicles by myself!
Return your summer reading books to Turrill's Open House Night on July 25th from 4:00-6:00 for a final raffle ticket.
Book swaps will be held inside in the Literacy Center. You can enter through the main entrance doors in the front parking lot. If your child is attending the Summer Academic Camp, he or she may swap their books during the school day on June 30th as well.
See you Thursday!

Math Facts
We're asking for your help with learning math facts this year. One of the biggest hurdles students can have in math achievement is not knowing basic math facts. Many students can solve elaborate equations and story problems, but can't do it efficiently because they don't know basic addition, subtraction, multiplication, or division facts. It's not glamorous, but it takes memorizing those pesky facts until students know they quickly. (You know... like we had to do when we were in school)
So what can you do?
- Make memorizing fun and play a game with it, like Red Light, Green Light
- Create flashcards with math facts
- Download an app or find a math fact website
- Quiz each other with math facts
- Use manipulatives, like fingers, cubes, beans, sticks, etc.
