Teacher Highlight of the Week - Mrs. Laurie Schaefer
What is your role at Kings Road School?
I am a fourth grade teacher.
What are your qualifications to serve in your role?
This is my 26th year at KRS. I have a Masters in Elementary Education and have taken additional graduate level courses over the years.
What do you like about Kings Road School?
Kings Road School is a special place because of all the dedicated teachers that work tirelessly to provide the students with the best learning experience possible. KRS is my home away from home.
What is your favorite book?
My favorite book is Wonder by R.J. Palacio. I love starting the school year reading this book to my class. We always have a lot of meaningful conversations about kindness, empathy, and acceptance.
What do you like to do when you are not at Kings Road School?
When I am not at KRS, I love spending time with my family. You can often find me at the baseball field watching my son Matthew pitch or at the track watching my son Jacob run. I enjoy reading, doing puzzles, and playing Candy Crush.
Thank you Fairleigh Dickinson Baseball Team for Reading to the KRS Students!
Fairleigh Dickinson University Baseball Team
Great thanks to the Fairleigh Dickinson University baseball team for reading to the Kings Road Students this week. Thank you to KRS special education teacher Mrs. Susan Light for arranging the experience for the students!

Kindergarten: This year in Kindergarten students are working on art projects with a literary connection, while they learn about art materials and procedures. We have begun with the books The Little Skyscraper by Scott Santoro and Up! Up! Up! Skyscraper by Anastasia Sven. They are working with oil pastel, paint, and collage to create their own little skyscraper
First Grade: This year First Grade students are learning about the Elements of Art through their projects. The first one: LINE. Ask your students about different types of lines in art. They are demonstrating their skill with lines in a Zentangle style turtle project.
Second through Fourth Grades: We are exploring art through imaginary visits all around the world! Second and third graders completed “art passports” to be stamped with each project. Second grade is visiting Haiti. They are creating their own artwork of a Tap, Tap, a Haitian taxi/bus. Third graders are visiting the Tapajos River in Brazil and creating artwork that uses reflection to make it interesting. And fourth graders are learning about the art of Katsushika Hokusai and creating their own Great Wave inspired artwork.
Fifth Grade: Mrs. Nicolette’s class is working on a special mixed-media project based on the beautiful illustrations by E.B. Goodale in the book Windows. Mr. Letchinger’s class earned an early-in-the-year clay project. They voted to create a Fantasy Creature display outside of the art classroom.
