Band Information
Checklist for Band Students:
- Band Registration Form (due Aug. 21)
- Join the Band Google Classroom
- Do you have all of your Band Supplies ordered/paid for?
- To order/pay for these items through HMS, click here.
- If you need a custom payment plan or extra time to pay, please email julie.huffman@sdale.org to set up a plan.
- If you did not order the method book from a music store, you will need to order it through HMS.
- Percussion Books: $20 First Approach to the Snare Drum & $20 First Approach to Mallet Percussion
- All other instruments: $10 Habits of a Successful Beginner Musician (green paperback book)
- Practicing at home
- A family meeting is needed to help set boundaries for the new instrument in the house.
- Repairs are expensive: Please help teach siblings/other family members to not open the instrument case or handle the instrument.
- Keep pets out of the instrument cases. Students should close their empty cases while practicing.
- It is not a good idea to practice right after you eat. Bits of food will get blown into the instrument causing bacteria to grow inside of it. Rinse out your mouth well or brush your teeth before playing.
- Students: use good playing habits (good posture, hand position, sounds - no blasting)
- Parents: Be encouraging. Band is not easy. It takes some time to get control of the sounds. It will get better, much better. :-) Practicing at home is needed, please do not punish students by taking away their ability to do their assignments. If you hear something that sounds nice, please tell them that you enjoyed hearing their song(s).
- Band Jam - Primetime
- Students will have opportunities to sign up for Band Jam - PrimeTime each week (2 days this coming week).
- The band room will be open for students to practice on their instruments and to work on their first 5 notes.
- The extra practice time allows for students to either get caught up or to work ahead.
- Also, if students learn how to play a cool song, this is a great opportunity for them to share it with their friends.
