Family Survey

Students have continued to earn eBucks through eOS by exhibiting PACK (positive, ambitious, courageous, and kind) behavior! Students may begin spending these eBucks when we launch our school rewards store on Friday, March 7th via a Google Form for ordering.
From the Counselor . . .
Counselor Ms. Jenni Berk continues to meet with students to process course requests for the 25-26 school year. Students also will learn about upcoming Career and Technical Education End of Program assessments, Work-Based Learning opportunities, and courses to take next school year, including dual credit courses.

Wellness Committee - Melanie Planck with Agriculture Instructor Mrs. Fallon Jackson
- Students researched inspirational quotes supporting self-awareness and personal growth then displayed these around the main building. Students next will look for ways to encourage peers to explore mindfulness this Spring.
Students in the Agricultural Engineering Institute have finished tearing down their small engines, completed a unit on oxyacetylene, and conducted small repair projects in the lab. Next, students will learn weld positions in stick welding and begin reassembling small engines.
Agribusiness - Equine Studies Program
Students in Equine Science (Level 1) have learned about careers in the equine industry from a guest speaker, Karen Gustin. They also learned to assess a horse with the Henneke BCS chart, how to use a weight tape, and to shorten manes and how to care for tails. Next, they will learn about nutrition to read and understand labels, receiving a visit from Amy Parker of Macauley's Feed. And, they will learn more about hoof care, including the parts of the hoof and the work of a farrier.
Students in Agribusiness and Farm Management (Level 2) have learned about equine reproduction, including breeding and foaling. Next, they will learn about exercising a horse including lunging and putting on a western saddle.
Students in Agricultural Sales and Marketing (Level 3) finished their digital portfolios and will learn about marketing techniques by creating a promotional video. Next, they will learn about horse racing, including the influence black horsemen had on the sport.
Food Science and Processing Program
This program will have an update from Agriculture Instructor Mr. Doug Ashcraft when he returns from leave due to a surgery.
Pre-Veterinary Studies Program
Students in Animal Technology (Level 3) mastered fecal flotation analysis for small animals and the McMaster technique for large animals, testing for endoparasites. Next, students will learn about ectoparasites, skin scrapings, and hematology. See the below photos.
Students in the Environmental Science and Natural Resources Institute have practiced for upcoming FFA Career Development Events. They also have learned about air quality based on industry, agriculture, and point and non-point source pollution. Students have evaluated white tail deer and worked to prepare aquaculture systems for harvesting basil for a pesto party.
Students in the Plant Science Institute work on planning a cut flower garden, planting in the greenhouse, and diagnosing plant diseases.

Foundational Courses
In Agriculture Employability Skills, students have learned about social media platforms, determining appropriate audiences and how to best reach these audiences via these platforms.
In Principles of Agricultural Science and Technology, students have learned about the Agricultural Engineering Institute, including tool use and electrical measurements. Next, students will learn about the Animal Science Institutes, including livestock terminology, digestive tracts, and livestock facilities.

Work-Based Learning
All 11th graders interested in participating in Work-Based Learning next year have met with Work-Based Learning Coordinator Mrs. Nicki Jones and Counselor Ms. Jenni Berk. Students should sign-up for the Remind group to receive reminders related to the Work-Based Learning application, etc. Students also should create or revise their resumes and share with Mrs. Jones for feedback and recommendations for improvements. See the feature at right on a current intern, Nancy Garcia Sanchez.
Interns at The Kentucky Castle finished planning their garden expansion project then started seeds, moved seedlings, and prepared for Spring planting. The students also prepped the high tunnel for planting and repaired raised beds. Next, students will volunteer at the Fayette County Farm Bureau Farm Machinery Auction and the Kentucky Horse Park.
