MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Steindorf Families,
We had a great week with a Firefighter visit, Walk and Roll Kickoff, and our much anticipated International Fair! Thank you to all of our parents, students, board members, and staff that make these wonderful events happen. We are so grateful for our community!
K-5 Goal Setting Conferences
Conferences start next week and are essential for building the school-family partnership for supporting students in all areas of education: academic, behavioral, and social emotional. During conferences, parents will learn how their child is progressing toward grade level standards based on anecdotal, formative, and summative assessment data. Students will also share their SMART goals--goals that are specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time-bound. Conferences support students in taking ownership of their education as a life-long skill. All week, our K-5 students will be dismissed on an early release schedule:
Kindergarten @ 1:15
1st-3rd Grades @ 1:30
4th-5th Grades @ 1:40
K-5 parents and guardians, please plan ahead if you need to coordinate student pick-up with this modified schedule. Middle School students have a regular schedule all week.
Multilingual Learner Parent Night
On September 26th, I had the opportunity to meet with parents and guardians of Steindorf’s multilingual learners. If you are a parent or guardian of a multilingual learner but was not able to attend, you can view my presentation. To summarize, we discussed Pathways to Biliteracy recognition, how we support multilingual learners at Steindorf, how students can reclassify as English fluent, and opportunities for parent and guardian leadership, advocacy, and voice.
Boys Basketball Update
Join us next week to cheer on our 6th, 7th, and 8th Grade Boys Basketball Teams!

October 10th after school is the SJDoT’s Bike Rodeo program. This is optional and requires parental/guardian presence/supervision. This event will take place from 3:05 - 5:05pm.
A bike rodeo is a bicycle skills event which provides an opportunity for bicyclists to practice and develop skills that will help them to become better bicyclists and avoid typical crashes.
No permission slip is needed, but we do require that a parent or guardian be present during the time that their child(ren) are participating. Students need to bring their own bike and helmet. If they do not have a helmet, we will have a limited supply on hand to provide for these students.
Please RSVP through this link: https://forms.gle/3m8kyDPebVNUaJEKA. You can also sign up your student on arrival at the bike rodeo. However, the RSVP list gives the program leads an idea of how many students will be participating.

PARKING LOT SAFETY
Safe Travels To and From School - Do’s and Don'ts
NOTE: The city has installed a "Right Turn Only During School Hours" sign at the exit of our parking lot. This is now enforceable by police. TURNING LEFT OR TRYING TO GO STRAIGHT is a danger to our students. Especially those crossing in the crosswalk across the street. Please only turn right.
Do’s
Walk or ride your bike when possible. You can lock your bike at the small bike rack at the end of the middle school wings.
Pull forward in the drop-off zone.
Drive slowly through our parking lot and look for pedestrians crossing at any point.
If transporting your child via car, park in a designated parking spot or in the neighborhood.
Please ensure that your child is fully buckled when driving through our parking lot.
Wear a helmet, it’s the law! Children under the age of 18 in California are required to wear a helmet when riding or operating a non-motorized scooter, bicycle, roller skates or skateboard.
To reduce the risk of an accident, abide by the posted sign installed by the City of San Jose and only turn right out of our exit between 7:30 am and 3:30 pm.
Don'ts
Don’t drive through our parking lot with distractions that could cause a student injury - In the first six days of school, Principal Lee has noted children scooting without a helmet, drivers with a phone in their hand, and dogs in drivers’ laps (which is not illegal, but a potential distraction).
Don’t park in designated disabled spots without a disabled placard.
Don’t bring your pet with you to campus.
