District launches new strategic plan: Future Ready
A promise with a commitment to equity, measurable goals and portrait of a grad
The Sumner-Bonney Lake School District’s new strategic plan, called Future Ready, is a roadmap to successfully fulfill our promise to know, value and support every student, helping them graduate ready to pursue a promising future. With our promise, rooted in a commitment to equity, we have clear goals with dedicated resources and an engaged community to help every student achieve success.
This five-year strategic plan was developed over several months in collaboration with diverse voices involving staff, students, families and community members. Watch this fun video for an animated overview of the plan’s major components, which include our promise statement, five goals and portrait of a graduate. Celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month
Each year, National Hispanic Heritage Month is recognized from September 15 to October 15 by celebrating the histories, cultures and contributions of American citizens whose ancestors came from Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean and Central and South America.
The day of September 15 is significant because it is the anniversary of independence for Latin American countries Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua. In addition, Mexico and Chile celebrate their independence days on September 16 and September 18, respectively.
This year's theme for Hispanic Heritage Month is "Unidos: Inclusivity for a Stronger Nation." You can read more information here: The National Council Hispanic Employment Program Managers.
Community events are ongoing throughout the month. Visit the Hispanic Heritage Art Exhibition at the Waterfront Market at Ruston, or read book recommendations from the Tacoma Public Library and Pierce County Library System.
Throughout the month, we will share how our schools are celebrating and recognizing Hispanic Heritage Month.
