What is a Family Cultural Ambassador?
We're looking for families to help support newly arrived families. Here is our initial idea.
Family Cultural Ambassador Responsibilities (15-20 hours over the 2024-2025 School Year):
Attend a 1 ½ hour-long orientation session June 5, 2024
Help prepare and attend the New Family Kickoff Event on Saturday, September 7th
Reach out to new families in the district who speak the same language and share information and resources about the district
Check-in with new families at least once a month about school events
Share information about ELPAC with families in their language group
Attend at least 2 Parent Meetings (School Open House, Parent Night (Literacy, Math, Multicultural, Diversity, SEPAC)
Attend 3 ELPAC meetings to report back about the parent meetings and to give updates on being a Family Cultural Ambassador
Qualifications:
Bilingual in English and one of the following languages:
Portuguese
Spanish
Arabic
Pashto
Russian
Haitian Creole
Turkish
Familiarity with Watertown and having children in the WPS district (currently or in the near past).
Preference will be given to candidates who have lived in Watertown for at least 2 years.
