Greetings Swanson Families,

February is upon us. After a bitterly cold January that seemed to drag on, we are already seeing the turn. Sun Set is now after 5pm. The weather is warming. Valentine's Day is next week, and parent-teacher conferences are two weeks away. We are going to blink and it will be Spring Break.

Thank you for working with us as we adjust instruction to best meet student needs. You should be proud of the work that your students are doing, and appreciative of the wonderful teachers and staff working with your students at Swanson Elementary. It is truly a team effort, and has required much thought, planning, and adjustment, but IT IS WORKING. THANK YOU, as parents, for working with your students at home. The comments from teachers is that more parents are working on skills at home regarding reading, letter names, and letter sounds than they can remember in recent history.

If you are looking for additional ways to support your student at home, especially if they are currently working at a Tier III level, Mrs. Basner will be offering a Parent Literacy Night on Tuesday, February 27th from 5:30-7:00 where she will go over skills and activities that you can do with your readers at home. See below for more information.

As a result of all of this work, we are on pace to hit our goal of 85% of students proficient on the Aimsweb composite by the end of the school year.

As we approach conferences we look forward to meeting to discuss your student's progress and plan for the future.

It continues to be a joy to work with the students, staff, and community of Swanson Elementary. I look forward to seeing you for Second Cup on Valentine's Day to go over celebrations and answer questions.

We have Parent Teacher Conferences on February 19th We will not be able to meet with every family during the one day of conferences. We will be prioritizing students who are Tier 3 or below proficient in reading, or other high need students. If you would like an updated progress report or a check in call, please reach out to your child’s teacher. We are always more than happy to discuss progress, growth or concerns with you!

Swanson Elementary is excited to host a literacy dinner and parent night targeted for parents whose children are receiving Reading intervention assistance here at school. We are focusing on ways you can help support your kids with their reading skills at home.

Date and time will be Tuesday, February 27th from 5:30-7:00.

Please do not let your child out of the car at the south entrance during morning drop offs until an adult is present and the doors are open. Students are not allowed to wait outside of the doors unattended. We appreciate your understanding and support in keeping Swanson's squirrels safe!

Please do not park along the sidewalk in the front parking lot. That space is reserved for our special education buses only.

If you are walking your student into the building please park in the lot and walk in. The lot gets very full, use extreme caution when exiting parking spaces and leaving the lot.
