Mustang Flyer
September 12, 2024
~ Notes From Mrs. Richardson ~
Dear Mountain Park Families,
Thanks for all of your kind words, emails, and ideas for support that you've offered as we continue to work each day to ensure the safety of our students and staff at school. I thought this would be a good opportunity to share the safety measures that have been put in place by Fulton County Schools and MPE over the past few years. To many of our returning parents, you'll recognize these measures, as they've been shared in previous years. I introduced our School Police Officer to you in an earlier Mustang Flyer. While we share him with Roswell High, he can be here within minutes if we need him. We are grateful for Officer Joseph! Additionally, our Dad's Club has volunteered to help out as extra eyes around our school! I am grateful for your continued support, remember, if you see something suspicious or concerning , please say something. Our front office is available to accept calls from 7:00-3:30, and our FCS TIP Line is always monitored.
Safety Plan & Drills
- Our district requires the development of a comprehensive safety plan that is revised each year. Our safety plan is reviewed annually by school leadership and district safety staff and then reported to the State of Georgia/Georgia Emergency Management Agency. Specifics of each plan are not releasable to safeguard students and staff;
- The state requires a minimum number of drills for evacuation, shelter, soft and hard lockdown. We discuss these drills with students as "dangerous situations". Each teacher discusses drills with students and we practice at regular intervals. All information about drills can be found here.
- Our school safety team meets monthly. We share safety concerns, brainstorm solutions, and work to maintain our culture of safety. Our entire staff has been Stop the Bleed trained and kits are housed throughout the building. All staff desiring to do so were offered the opportunity for CPR training. We have 4 AED units throughout the building.
Doors & Windows
- All exterior doors are always locked. Teachers have keys to enter from recess. We will begin implementing regular door checks by admin to ensure doors are not propped and door alarms are on.
- In newly implemented procedures, all interior doors will remained lock while students are in class. In case of an emergency, teachers will perform a visual sweep of the outside of their doors to bring in any students that may be in the hallway.
- Doors that are not used regularly throughout the day are equipped with door alarms. If opened, the door alarm will sound. This prevents doors from being propped and alerts nearby staff if the door is opened
- Shatter resistant glass has been installed in large access areas. Our front office area and cafeteria windows have been covered.
- Our school is equipped with sophisticated camera systems that cover the interior and exterior common areas. School leadership, FCS Police and district safety personnel are able to monitor cameras 24/7.
- License Plate readers are installed at entrances to every FCS School. These cameras capture computer-readable images of license plates, allowing law enforcement agencies to compare plate numbers against those of stolen cars or cars driven by people suspected of being involved in criminal activities. The cameras send real-time alerts to law enforcement when a vehicle associated with a wanted suspect or endangered person passes the camera.
- All teachers, staff and substitutes have a Centegix alert badge. The badge can be used to call local school administration in case of an immediate need or to alert district staff and local police if an active threat is present.
- All teachers and staff have access to Crisis Go on their district issued devices as well as their personal phones if they wish. We record all drills and route emergency communication through Crisis Go, which district leadership and safety personnel have access.
The following PDFs are housed on the district's Safety & Security homepage.

On-Site Counseling Services at Mountain Park
My name is Samantha Scalabrino, and I am a licensed therapist with The Summit Counseling Center. I work at Mountain Park to provide private, individual counseling to students in need. I have worked as a therapist for 20 years and have previous experience working in schools for children with behavioral difficulties and with special needs.
Students who use my services have a wide range of needs: they may be experiencing anxiety, depression, grief, thoughts of self-harm, and/or behavioral challenges. They may need to learn skills to help with their emotional regulation, manage their ADHD, navigate family transitions such as a divorce or death, or deal with peer conflict/bullying. Students are conveniently seen at school for their sessions, so caregivers do not have to worry about making the time to take them to an appointment.
The first two intake sessions—one with the parent and one with the student—are free of charge. Summit provides financial assistance to families who qualify for extra support and matches insurance rates. Please reach out if you think your child would benefit from counseling and would like more information. My email address is sscalabrino@summitcounseling.org. You can also call Summit directly at 678-893-5300 and visit our website at Mental Health Help in Schools | The Summit Counseling Center.
