February Recognition
Black History Month
Black History Month was created to focus attention on the contributions of African Americans to the United States. It honors all Black people from all periods of U.S. history, from the enslaved people first brought over from Africa in the early 17th century to African Americans living in the United States today.

· Safer Internet Day offers all the scoop on celebrations and awareness underway for the Safer Internet Day initiative.

National School Resource Officer Appreciation Day - February 15
The National Association of School Resource Officers encourages schools and communities to recognize the valuable work of their school resource officers (SROs) during National School Resource Officer Appreciation Day on February 15 of every year.
Presidents' Day - February 17
Presidents’ Day helps us reflect on not just the first president but also our nation’s founding, its values, and what Washington calls in his Farewell Address the “beloved Constitution and union, as received from the Founders.” Also, Abraham Lincoln’s birthday is February 12, so by calling the holiday “Presidents’ Day,” we can also include another remarkable president in our celebrations.
How are inclement weather decisions made?
We encourage the Team BCPS community to review important information on our school closing and emergency procedures. As a reminder, decision regarding school operations are made by 5:30 a.m. More information can be found on our website at https://www.bcps.org/about_us/emergency_notifications_school_closings_and_delays.

Help Children Thrive in our Digital World
One way to help your children be safe, healthy and ready to learn is to manage their access to the Internet and use of devices. If your child brings a cell phone or smart watch to school, be sure to set up parental controls to reinforce that the device is off and away during learning time. You can also use parental controls to limit the length of time, time of day and sites they visit on the Internet. For more information on using parental controls, Android phone users can visit Family Link; iPhone users can visit Family Controls; and Apple-Watch users can visit Setting up Schooltime on Apple Watch and Setting Up Apple Watch for Your Kids.

BOE Area Education Advisory Council Meetings
The Education Advisory Council of Baltimore County is made up of five area councils and serves a unique and important role in our school system. Recognizing the essential role parents and community members play in supporting our public school system, the Advisory Council was established in 1972. Since that time, the Advisory Council members have served as both informed advisors to the Board of Education and as liaisons to the communities they represent. Meeting details are HERE.
