Principal Notes
CMS Families,
We had an incredible first three days of school! We look forward to seeing everyone next Tuesday night for Mini-School Night. During Mini-School Night parents will have to opportunity to follow their child's schedule and hear from the staff. A sample schedule can be found here. Your child should bring home a completed copy of the schedule next week but you can also access their daily schedule in Skyward.
I am excited to share that our school will be using a new tool for reading and mathematics called i-Ready. Please read this letter about the implementation of i-Ready in GCSID and CMS.

Dress Code Updates
CMS Families,
We shared the GCISD dress code expectations with all students on Thursday during an assembly. Beginning on Monday, August 19, we will begin enforcing our updated policies. Thank you in advance for helping ensure your student is in dress code each day. We appreciate your support!
Solutions to Address Grapevine-Colleyville ISD Dress Standards: If a student is not following the dress standards, the administrator/staff member should address the student individually to come up with a solution using the following guidelines:
● Students are expected to be in compliance with the dress standards during the instructional day and on school-sponsored field trips or events requiring specific dress standards.
● Students will be given the option of removing articles and accessories that do not conform to the standards of dress.
● Students will be asked to put on their own alternative clothing, if already available at school, to meet the standards for the remainder of the day.
● Students will be provided with temporary school clothing to meet the standards for the remainder of the day (when available).
● If necessary, the student's parent/guardian may be called during the school day to bring alternative clothing for the student to wear for the remainder of the school day.
● If a student’s parent/guardian checks the student out from school to correct a dress code infraction, the infraction will still be logged in Skyward and the absence will be unexcused. GCISD will not grant permission for a student to leave campus to address dress code violations; it must be initiated by a parent/guardian.
Any infraction addressed will be documented in Skyward using the following parameters:
● First infraction: Warning, student makes a change to meet dress code standards, and then may return to class.
● Second infraction: Consequence given (detention or similar), student makes a change to meet dress code standards, and then may return to class.
● Third infraction: Consequence given (1 day of ISS), student makes a change to meet dress code standards, and then may return to class.
● Subsequent infractions may be addressed as persistent misbehavior pursuant
to the GCISD Student Code of Conduct.

Attendance at CMS
Parents please take note of the following attendance reminders:
- Attendance is taken per class period. If your student misses one class, you will get an absence notification.
- If your student is sick please email me, we have to have an electronic copy of your notification.
- Your students have four "parent sick days" per semester. If you choose to keep your student home when they are sick and not take them to the doctor, please send me an email and their absence will be excused; this is reserved for illnesses only.
- Please make sure all doctor's notes are turned in to excuse your student's absence.
- If you have any questions please feel free to contact me; my contact information is listed below for your convenience.
- We kindly request that students are not checked out after 3:10 each day (unless an emergency or illness).
Dismissal Request
The bus circle and visitor parking lot on the side of the school is for school buses only from 3:10-3:40 each day. We've had a few cars in that drive this week which has delayed the buses from departing and impeded traffic. Thank you for your support!
A Note from Nurse Sibley
Beginning of Year Reminders from Nurse Sibley
*If your student has seizures, allergies resulting in anaphylaxis, diabetes, or asthma, please send a current Medication Permit Form with their doctor's signature. We need this even if the student is self-carrying emergency medications. It must be renewed every year.
*Students are not allowed to self-carry any medication other than life-saving medications with a doctor's order (Medication Permit Form) on file in the health office. This helps ensure that our Colts are safe from ingesting or applying medications that are contra-indicated for them. If you would like to keep medication for your student in the health office, you may do so with the Medication Permit Form.
*Remember to keep your student home if they're sick. Students must be fever free (100 degrees or under) without medication in order to return. If they've had vomiting or diarrhea, they also need to stay home until symptom free for 24 hours.
Thank you for doing your part to keep our students safe and healthy!

SOS Signs of Suicide® Prevention Program Preview Wednesday, August 28th, 10:00am & 6:00pm
The adolescent years are marked by a roller-coaster ride of emotions—difficulty for youths, their parents, and educators. It is easy to misread depression as normal adolescent turmoil; however, depression (among the most common of mental illnesses) appears to be occurring at a much earlier age. Depression—which is treatable—is the leading risk factor for suicide.
To proactively address these issues, GCISD offers depression awareness and suicide prevention training as part of the SOS Signs of Suicide® Prevention Program.
The SOS Signs of Suicide® Prevention Program is designed for all secondary students grades 6-12.
The GCISD School Health Advisory Committee has previewed and recommended these programs for all GCISD secondary schools.
A parent preview of the program will be held on Wednesday, August 28th, 10:00am & 6:00pm at the GCISD Administration Building – Board Room, 3051 Ira E. Woods, Grapevine, Texas 76051.
For more information, including information about how to opt your student out of the program, please click here: English Spanish
At Colleyville Middle School, student presentations will occur on September 12th for 8th grade, September 19th for 7th grade, and September 26th for 6th grade during all math classes. Questions about SOS and CMS students may be directed to Natalie Siegele at Natalie.Siegele@gcisd.net or (817) 251-5665.
Schedule Change Deadline
The schedule change deadline for this year is August 27, 2024. All requests need to be submitted prior to that day. Please be advised that all changes will be considered on a case by case basis. While we would like to accommodate every request, changes depend on course availability and class size. We are excited to have our Colts back in the building for another great year at CMS!
