How the Law Enforcement Drill Works at Sprague
On Wednesday, we sent out a message about next week's Law Enforcement Drill taking place in each of our schools. Today, we would like to explain how we conduct the drill at Sprague School.
Similar to our fire and tornado drills, it is important for us to practice what to do if there is a danger in or around our school building.
Teachers will lead an introductory lesson in their classrooms to learn what to do when we need to lock down at Sprague to be safe. We will provide a lesson in the current classroom setting where students already feel safe as part of our learning community. This lesson will provide a developmentally appropriate presentation and include a reading of the book, "I'm Not Scared, I'm Prepared." This lesson focuses on students listening to their teachers and following directions. We do not use the term “active shooter.”
We will be using a set of common terms for consistent understanding throughout the lessons.
Students will only practice a traditional lockdown. We will not evacuate or counter as this is not developmentally appropriate.
Please fill out the Sprague opt out form by Noon Monday, Nov. 18, if you do not want your student to participate in this drill.
Interested in Learning about Mandarin?
We are excited to explore the possibility of introducing a new after-school opportunity at Sprague School: a Chinese Mandarin Culture & Language Club! This club would allow our young students to learn the Mandarin language while experiencing the richness of Chinese culture through fun, interactive activities. The club would run alongside our other after-school programs starting in January, with sessions designed specifically for our K-2 students. Before moving forward, we’d like to gauge interest from our parent community to ensure this club is the right fit for our families.
Please let us know if you think this would be an exciting and beneficial opportunity for your child! Your interest and feedback will help us shape our students' meaningful and enriching experiences. Please complete this form by Monday, Dec. 2.
If you are interested, please fill out the Chinese Culture & Language Club form.
