Mariner Update Family Edition
Volume 14 Issue 26
Our gifts as educators, as parents, as Mariner brothers and sisters, our gifts are meant to be shared and used to benefit others; essentially, the purpose of receiving a gift is to give it away to others in service and love.
I love our school, do you love your school!
Subject: Transformative Change
Dear IHCS Parents, Staff and Students - also known as our Mariner Family,
Imagine the possibilities as we continue to grow and change—together. Transformative change is not just about shifting what we do; it’s about embracing who we are becoming as a school community. It’s about providing each other with both the brave space and the safe space to learn from one another, to challenge and coach each other up, and to always center our work around the brilliance of our students.
This journey will bring moments of struggle, adjustments, and growth. There will be dips along the way, but with every challenge comes an opportunity to refine our practice and move forward stronger. Transformative change means continuing to seek input, to refine how we teach at school and how learning is supported at home. It is rooted in answering essential questions:
What do we want our students to learn?
How will we assess their learning?
How will we respond when they understand?
How will we support them when they don’t understand yet?
One powerful part of this journey is SAIL into Stories. This initiative is not just about reading—it’s about modeling the importance of education and fostering a love for learning. When parents read with students at school, the impact is both direct and indirect. Students see firsthand that their education is valued not only by their teachers but also by their families. They witness learning as a lifelong pursuit, and they experience the joy of literacy in a way that strengthens their confidence and their future.
Just look at the faces of our parents walking through our front office for our most recent SAIL into Stories event. That is the evidence of our transformation—of our growth together, our commitment to change for all the right reasons, and our shared belief in the brilliance of our kids. It is proof that when we share our gifts, when we build each student and each life with a strong foundation, we all rise together.
I love our school. Do you love your school?
Let’s continue to grow, to challenge, to believe, and to transform our world—together.
With dedication,
Mrs. Barry, Mr. Castro, and Mr. Candelaria

Some of the most recent evidence of our growth together at IHCS and across PESD includes: a powerful SAIL into Stories group photo capturing parents braving the rain to show up for their students, the launch of our beautiful new garden, The Mariner’s Meadow, led by Mrs. Goodrich and Ms. McGaughey in partnership with the City of Perris, and the impactful work of our district laundry room at Rob Reiner, providing essential support to families in need across the PESD community.
