We Need Your Great Ideas!
Just a few months ago, the U.S. Surgeon General issued a warning about the mental and physical toll of parenting, and we’re seeing those challenges right here in Deerfield. This growing problem requires a local solution.
Join us next Tuesday, March 18, at Caruso Middle School as we:
- Hear from medical professionals about the trends and behaviors they are observing related to dependence on technology—for both adults and children.
- Collaborate on ideas our community can implement to foster greater independence.
This important discussion will take place in the Caruso Auditorium from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. Click below to RSVP.
Due by March 21: A Chance to Share Your Story With Students
We’re seeking community participants to lead interactive sessions at Shepard Middle School's Culture Fair on Friday, May 16, 2025.
This event is an opportunity to showcase something meaningful from your cultural or religious background—such as a traditional dance, craft, ritual, or clothing—and give students a hands-on experience with the richness of our world’s cultures.
Does this sound like an opportunity right up your alley? Fill out the interest form below by March 21!
Note: You do not need to have a current student at Shepard or any DPS 109 school to apply!

What's Good in 109?
West Side Classic Success!
Wilmot, South Park, and Caruso staff members went head-to-head in a fun and friendly volleyball tournament fundraiser! The event was organized, promoted, and run by the incredible Wilmot Student Council members. And the best part? Every dollar raised went to the Global Empowerment Mission, a nonprofit dedicated to providing crucial aid to those affected by the LA wildfires.
Reading Under the Stars at Walden
Walden had a fun, schoolwide "Read Under the Stars" day last week. Students brought in their favorite books and a light to create their own cozy reading nooks.
Check Out the Pet Wall of Fame!
There’s a whole bunch of special family members on the wall at Caruso! The school’s philanthropy club is offering students and staff the chance to add a picture of their beloved pet to the CMS Pet Wall of Fame. The club is asking for $5 donations to Orphans of the Storm, a local animal shelter dedicated to providing care and finding loving homes for orphaned, abandoned, abused, or neglected dogs and cats.
