NTHS' Monthly Newsletter - October 2023
Principal's Message
Lumberjack Family,
As we close out the month of October, it seems like just yesterday that both staff and students entered our building to begin the new school year for the first time. Speaking about how fast the school year is going by, the 1st Marking Period ends on Thursday, November 9, 2023. Parents, please remember to check your parent portal to review your child(ren)’s grades, as soon as you receive a communication from the district that grades have been posted. It normally takes us about two weeks after grades close to have all grades reviewed and posted.
I am glad to report that we had a very successful T/NT Week a few weeks back. Congratulations to our Boys Varsity Football Team for their well deserved win against the City of Tonawanda. Our Spirit Week was well received by our staff and students alike. The students really seemed to love “Anything But A Bookbag Day”. Our Homecoming Dance had almost 600 students attending the night after the T/NT Football Game. T/NT Week is a fun and enjoyable time for all members of the Lumberjack Family. It is a great display of NT pride and the very positive climate, and culture of our building.
As we move into November and December, the days go by quickly with Veteran’s Day, Thanksgiving, and Winter Break. Please know that we offer an after school instructional program called Overtime Goals, every Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday. This program runs from 2:45 to 3:20 PM in our Library. This program is led by numerous NTHS teachers that are able to work 1:1 with participating students. Students do not need to sign up prior to an Overtime Goal session, just show up and get to work!
Go Jacks!

Earth Science Field Trip
October 2023
Earth science students experienced an adventurous field trip with raging water, ancient rock layers, and colorful rustling leaves. On a scenic hike into the Gorge, students climbed hundreds of steps down into the valley that was carved by the Niagara River over millions of years. Surrounding stone walls expose the history of ocean sediments and ancient sea creatures that formed the sedimentary rock layers. Deep in the middle of the river’s path between Canada and the United States, students had a picnic lunch on an enormous flat rock alongside the Whirlpool rapids. 10th grader Monalisa Thompson said, “The field trip to the gorge was jaw dropping! The nature and the formations made years ago were so incredible to see”.
Mr. Mohring wanted to ensure students from the foreign exchange program were involved, and they gladly agreed to join in on this field experience. Niagara Falls is a “must see” destination and the Maid of the Mist boat tour is one of the best ways to get an excellent view of this natural wonder. Students were able to see and feel the amazing power of water on the boat directly below both the American and Horseshoe Falls. All were splashed and soaked by the thundering water that flows over the falls. Mrs. Criddle said, “We are so fortunate to have such amazing display right in our backyard, there is no better way to teach earth science than to experience it directly”.
