Fun Questions to Dive Deep with Your Kids
Are you tired of asking your kid how their day was and only getting “fine” as a response? Part of our Life Habits curriculum includes conversation starter questions designed to reinforce Life Habits skills at home. To help students become more self-aware while creating meaningful moments, try out some of our fun, creative questions that spark curiosity and connection!
Instead of the usual "How was school?" dive into engaging topics like What are three words to best describe you? or What was the best part of your day? Sprinkle in questions that build kindness and character, such as How did you show kindness today? or What are some ways you can show kindness to your classmates? Parents can create an open space where kids are inspired to share by asking these engaging questions. Be sure to share your answers with them as well.Reading at Home Over the Holidays
Encouraging kids to practice reading and writing at home during the holidays is a wonderful way to reinforce the joy of literacy as they celebrate the magic of Christmas. The holiday season provides plenty of opportunities to make reading and writing activities fun! Here are a few ideas:
Write a Letter to Santa - Kids can express their wishes, practice handwriting, and learn the elements that make up a letter.
Make Family Favorite Holiday Recipes - Involving children in reading recipes improves their reading skills and teaches them the importance of following instructions.
Read Christmas Cards: Sharing holiday cards from friends and family can help children stay connected with loved ones.
These activities blend fun with learning, making the holidays a perfect time to nurture kids' literacy skills.
CCMR: Proactive Steps in Planning for College
As your student begins to make college plans, here are some proactive steps they can take to ensure they are prepared.
Application Fees - Many colleges and universities require an application fee. These fees can add up over time, ranging from $50 to $100 with each application. However, many schools will waive the application fee for students with financial needs. Check with your counselor about fee waivers. You can also research schools that do not require an application fee.
FAFSA Now Open - For students entering college in 2025-2026, the Free Application for Federal Student Aid is now open! Students should submit their application to receive federal aid for college. All applications must be submitted by June 30, 2025. Please visit the FAFSA website to learn more about the application and how to complete the form.
Community Service - In addition to strong academics, many colleges value students who have volunteer and community service experience. The Christmas break can be a great time to log more hours. Check with your local senior or assisted living centers, food pantries, or even thrift stores for volunteer opportunities!
