West Wing Preschool
Dear West Wing Community,
We are very excited to announce the addition of another preschool opportunity at West Wing! Please see the flier below to register for our DVUSD Community Preschool!
We will now have two Preschool options at West Wing!
We will be offering a Preschool/PreK at West Wing in addition to our Developmental Preschool.
Building Thinking Classrooms
Our teachers are actively implementing new instructional routines to enhance student learning. Currently, we are focusing on strategies to deepen students' critical thinking and problem-solving skills in mathematics. This past week, educators from every K-5 grade level participated in a full day of professional development, equipping them with innovative, research-based practices. Our dedicated teachers immediately applied their learning in their classrooms!
STEAM into Kindergarten at West Wing
Attention West Wing Community,
Save the date for our upcoming event where we welcome our incoming kindergarten students for the 25-26 school year! You do not want to miss this opportunity. Please invite your neighbors and help us spread the word to any families with students ready to begin kindergarten!
Tax Credit Time
Please consider making a tax credit donation to West Wing School. Deciding to direct your tax dollars to your child's school is an incredible way to impact our school.
Mighty Mustangs
We are so proud of our Mighty Mustangs and for their dedication to demonstrating respect, compassion, and integrity!

Student Stampede
Mustangs Growing to Proficiency!
We know that success doesn’t just happen overnight. It takes dedication, effort, and the right mindset. During Friday's Student Stampede we recognized students who have demonstrated what it truly means to be committed to their learning with the Mustangs Growing to Proficiency award!
The students we recognized have shown an outstanding commitment to their learning by following the five keys to achieving high growth this year.
- Showing Up and Staying Consistent – These students know that success starts with being present. Every day they show up, ready to learn, and take every opportunity to grow.
- Being Focused and Engaged in Their Classes – Learning isn’t just about being in the room; it’s about actively participating, asking questions, and staying involved in the learning process.
- Taking Ownership of Their Learning – They understand that their education is in their hands. They seek out help when needed, set goals, and put in the work to achieve them.
- Building a Growth Mindset – These students don’t shy away from challenges. Instead, they embrace difficulties as opportunities to grow and improve.
- Supporting Each Other – Success isn’t just about individual achievement. These Mustangs uplift and encourage their classmates, creating a positive and motivating learning environment for all.

Office Reminders
Please read the policies below and help us protect the time that our dedicated teachers need in order to focus on their daily instruction.
Email Policy:
West Wing has email office hours. Our staff check emails Monday - Friday before and after school and may on their prep periods. This curfew is applied to encourage a better work-life balance.
Our goal is to respond to parent emails within two school days (excluding weekends & school holidays). Sometimes, it may take longer if information has to be gathered before a response is sent. It is inappropriate to chase a teacher for a response to an email before two school days have elapsed. Excessive or aggressive emails to staff will be forwarded to administration to determine if a communication plan will be implemented. Teachers focus their attention on their daily work with our students.
Weekly communication from our teachers contains important information and should be read by parents. The Mustang Bulletin is an important email communication that is sent out every Monday to keep parents informed and is accessible from the school website. Archived editions of the Mustang Bulletin are also available on the school website.
Communicating a Change in Pick-Up:
If for any reason you need to get a message to your student regarding a change in pick-up, our policy is to call the office prior to 2:15 and we will deliver the message to your student before the end of the day. If you are making a change after 2:15, we cannot guarantee your student will get that message. Please keep the same pick-up procedure for that day. Any changes must be communicated to the front office by calling 623-376-5000. Calling the office at 3:30 and asking for an annoucement to be made at dismissal is ineffective and we are not able to guarantee that your child will hear the intercom announcement.
Early Pick-Up:
In order to protect instructional time, students will not be called out of class after 3:15/1:45. If a parent needs to pick up a student early, they must be picked up before 3:15/1:45 pm. If you arrive in the office after 3:15/1:45 then you will asked to meet your child at the gate.
Thank you to all of our families for supporting our work with our students. It is truly a joy to have so many wonderful students to serve each day at West Wing!
Please review the student dress code with your student(s).
Family's Immunization Health Records
Dear Parents,
Now You Can Access Your Family’s Immunization Health Records:
Quite often, I have family members call to ask me if I can send them a copy their child’s immunization record; to retrieve a record from previous years when their child went to West Wing School. Their intent is to use these records for college admissions, a passport, a new job, etc.
Please be advised that you will now have access to these records by utilizing the Arizona Department of Health Services. Just follow the links provided below:
Please note that patient information provided on MyIR needs to match exactly what is in the state record site. If MyIR cannot match someone’s information, then they need to contact Arizona Department of Health Services at 602-542-1025 or complete a request on the Immunization
If you have any other questions, please reach out to me.

During our 2:00 pm dismissal time teachers meet in together and we call these Collaborative Team meetings. West Wing is a PLC school (Professional Learning Community). Our 90 minute early release days support planning for student learning, interventions, and targeted support. This time is invaluable to our teachers, and our students, as it gives critical time to our teacher teams to design skill-based instruction and assessments, review student progress data, and design supports and interventions. Learn more about what happens in PLC at DVUSD.org/PLC.
