The Connection
The Connection - July 2024
Hello Everyone!
I hope everyone had a great 4th of July and is buckled in for the wild ride as we approach the election in November. There’s so much on the line this November, you know preserving democracy and all. If you want to help turn out your fellow educators to vote, we have plenty of opportunities for you. Every Saturday in October we will be out knocking doors to turn out the vote! Want to get involved? Terrified of Agenda 47 (Project 2025)? Respond to this email and join the team!
There’s a primary on August 13th with two referendum questions. WEAC and our friends are advising pro-public educator voters to VOTE NO on both questions. There’s more information on those questions here and below. https://weac.org/resources/take-action/election-resources/
We are in the process of screening candidates for the upcoming election cycle to find pro-public education candidates that are worthy of our union members’ votes. Those lists are available here. As we get closer to the election this list will continue to be updated. https://weac.org/resources/take-action/election-resources/voter-guide-educator-recommended-candidates/
Our WEAC EdSummer member recruitment program is in full swing. We kicked off with a two day training in Green Bay with union leaders from all over the state! Region 3 dominated the roster and it’s been exciting to see the union grow in Northeast/Eastern Wisconsin. We heard so many powerful new leaders share their story of why they are involved in strengthening their unions and welcoming new educators to the profession. Now is the perfect time of year to set goals for the upcoming year, fine tune your outreach to the new hires in the fall and help turn out the vote to ensure we have democracy in November. If you want to get involved respond to this email!
In Solidarity,
Kristin Lytie
