Course Selection for the 25-26 School Year
It is time to begin looking ahead to the 25-26 school year and planning course selections! The Career and Educational Planning Guide (CEPG) is updated for the 25-26 school year. The CEPG lists all of our course offerings, as well as general information that can assist students and parents with course planning. We will also host several events to support our students with course selection.
This Wednesday, January 29th, we will host an electives fair during the school day. This is an opportunity for students to connect with their peers and learn more about our elective course options.
On Wednesday, February 5th, students will meet in grade level groups to learn more about course planning and course options.
On Thursday, February 6th, at 6:30 pm in the Performing Arts Center, we invite students and parents of the Class of 2029 to High School Enrollment Night. Students and parents will hear from ESHS administration and counselors regarding graduation requirements and course selections for the 2025-2026 school year.
On Wednesday, February 12th, students will make their course requests for the 25-26 school year.

Panorama Survey - January 29th
We thank you and your family for being our valued partners as we work together to educate the students in Excelsior Springs. As you may already be aware, building our social-emotional learning skills is an important goal for our school this year. On Wednesday, January 29th, we will be asking for students to reflect on their own mindsets and approaches to learning via an online survey they will be completing at school. The survey shouldn’t take more than 10-15 minutes to complete, and provides an opportunity for students to reflect on how they perceive these skills in themselves.
The survey content will ask students to self-reflect on their self efficacy, grit, resilience and emotional regulation. We are asking that all of our students participate in the surveys, as their responses will provide invaluable insights into their experiences and how we can improve and adapt our district to their needs. This is a follow-up to the survey students completed in the fall and helps us understand the current needs and areas of growth for our students.
If a student doesn’t feel like they have enough information to answer a question, they will be able to skip the item altogether. The responses to these surveys will be completely confidential. We are partnering with a third-party vendor (Panorama Education) to support us in administering these surveys.
If you opted your student out of these surveys in the fall, we will continue to keep them on the opt out list. Please notify Assistant Principal Deanna Uptegrove at duptegrove@ga.essd40.com if you would like your student to opt out of taking the survey. If you have any questions about the survey administration, please don’t hesitate to contact us.

Parking Updates
ESHS has adjusted their discipline for minor parking violations. Examples of minor parking violations include parking in the wrong lot or parking without a parking pass.
1st offense: Warning
2nd offense: $5.00 fine
3rd offense: $10.00 fine
4th offense: Loss of parking privileges
A reminder that driving to school is a privilege not a right. School personnel retain the authority to assign parking lots, tow unauthorized automobiles (at owner's expense), grant parking privileges, or deny parking privileges. Parking lot checks will be conducted on a periodic basis.
Strong Attendance Matters!
We want to encourage students to commit to being in school, all day, every day. Attendance in school is one of the most important factors to academic success and feeling connected to school. If illness or appointments prevent students from being in school, please notify our attendance office as soon as possible and submit doctor's notes upon return. Below is a reminder of our attendance procedures.
