Annual Library Survey

A friendly reminder to complete the survey for each building. Doing the survey is an important tool that can help you advocate for your library program. Compiling and identifying trends from across the state also assists in efforts to garner support for library programs in all schools. This year the survey has been shortened and we know that some of the information will be estimated.

Increase Engagement & Social Media Apps

Matt Miller, Ditch that Textbook, is a great source for free templates and ideas to spice up your lessons and allow students to share learning in a creative way all the while practicing digital literacy skills.

Using social media apps gets complicated when considering student privacy, age of students, parent permission needs, etc. Matt Miller points out that you don't need to use the apps kids love. Rather, use the idea with free Google/Microsoft tools. Record a "Tic Toc" or send a "Snap" to display learning. Have fun with the templates below!

Media Academy 20-21

My favorite part of this job is definitely Media Academy. I always loved attending as a teacher librarian. Thanks to everyone who completed the survey from 19-20 Media Academy.

As I learn more about the suggested guidelines from the Iowa Department of Health and best practices for cleaning in libraries, I will share the recommendations. Districts are working on the Return to Learn plans. I will seek out connections for teacher librarians and integrate that into Media Academy next year.

Use the form below to provide suggestions for topics and format. Consider the format. Should it remain 4 days, include graduate credit options, etc.? All feedback is greatly appreciated.

Professional Development

Summer is definitely a time to enjoy some well deserved relaxation; however, it can also be a time to grow professionally and be sure your license is up to date. For more information check out Mississippi Bend AEA Current Summer Course Offerings.

There are courses offered virtually throughout the entire state on a variety of topics. Check out course listings and registration at AEA PD Registration site. Use the same login for the site where you take mandatory reporter, bloodborne pathogens, etc. If you don't remember your password, click Forgot Password at the bottom of the page.
