Roosevelt PACK Updates
April 05, 2024
Solar-bration!
The upcoming solar eclipse is scheduled to occur on April 8, 2024. The eclipse is projected to begin around 2:00 p.m., reach maximum coverage at 3:14 p.m., and conclude around 4:30 p.m. West Bloomfield is just outside the path of totality and will experience a partial eclipse at about 98%.
A solar eclipse happens when the Moon passes between the Sun and the Earth, blocking all or part of the Sun's light. Teacher will choose and communicate their classroom plans for the eclipse. The Roosevelt PTO, in partnership with the West Bloomfield Township Public Library will provide each student with a pair of solar-eclipse viewing glasses. These glasses are designed to filter harmful ultraviolet, visible, and infrared radiation. When looking through the glasses, students will not be able to see anything but the sun itself. Please discuss with your children that it is crucial to use certified solar viewing glasses to protect their eyes during the eclipse, and we ask that students wear glasses while viewing the eclipse.
If you would prefer that your child NOT go outside to view the eclipse, please let your child's classroom teacher know by 8:00 a.m. on Monday, April 8th.
