Greetings, La Porte ISD Family. Today is a great day to be a Bulldog!

I hope you are all enjoying a wonderful summer! I'm thrilled to share that hundreds of students have continued their participation in our summer camps and activities, and we still have several more exciting camps coming up. These camps offer fantastic opportunities for learning and fun, so I encourage you to register your student if you haven't already.

Reading, especially when made fun, is important because it not only enhances knowledge and cognitive abilities but also fosters a lifelong love for learning, stimulates imagination, and creates a positive, engaging experience that encourages continuous exploration and growth. With that, we are hosting pop-up read aloud events throughout the school district this summer. These events are a great way to foster a love of reading in our students and offer a wonderful opportunity for families to come together. Please find the schedule for these events below and join us for some storytelling fun.

Also, make plans to cool off and explore the galaxy with us on June 25 at our first Planetarium Night of the summer. There are four shows beginning at 5:30 p.m. at the Pemberton Planetarium. See the full schedule below.

Lastly, I want to remind you that all STAAR scores are now available for viewing. You can access your child's scores through the Home Access Center.

Get a personalized look at your child’s academic growth this year with the 2024 STAAR End-of-Course and STAAR grades 3-8 results. Log in to HomeAccess Center to see your child’s scores, access learning tools, and other resources to support your child in key subject areas.

Two La Porte ISD elementary campuses – Leo A. Rizzuto and Lomax – have been named to the 2023-24 Education Results Partnership Honor Roll for high achievement and student success.

The program, sponsored by the Institute for Productivity in Education, is part of a national effort to identify higher-performing schools and districts that are improving student outcomes.

Lomax and Rizzuto received recognition for demonstrating consistent high levels of student academic achievement, improvement in achievement levels over time, and a reduction in achievement gaps among student populations. About 12 percent of Texas schools made the ERP Honor Roll.

“We are incredibly proud of the remarkable achievements of Lomax and Leo A. Rizzuto in making the statewide honor roll,” said La Porte ISD Superintendent Dr. Walter Jackson. “This recognition is a testament to the hard work, dedication, and excellence demonstrated by our students and staff. It reflects our commitment to providing a world-class education and fostering an environment where every student can thrive.“

This summer, our school district is igniting a passion for reading with an exciting series of pop-up reading events. Along with the read aloud, participants have an opportunity to make bookmarks, enjoy a popsicle and log Beanstack reading minutes. These pop up events are not just about reading; they're about building a community of readers and fostering a love for literacy. Here is a schedule of future events. Come join us!

Ten select La Porte High School JROTC cadets, accompanied by Capt. Hector Echevarria and Sgt. 1st Class John Piccio, attended a JROTC Leadership Camp in New Braunfels this week. This camp provided our cadets with an invaluable opportunity to challenge their physical and mental limits beyond their natural comfort zones. An obstacle course was instrumental in helping them develop the confidence needed to overcome both physical and mental barriers they may encounter in life.

Though Teddy Charlery walked across the graduation stage in late May, he put on the helmet and pads one more time on June 8 to represent the La Porte Bulldogs in the Bayou Bowl.

The Bayou Bowl is an annual all-star game featuring senior players from across the Greater Houston area. It is sponsored by the Greater Houston Football Coaches Association. Interstate 45 is the dividing line for East and West squads. Participants were selected by a committee of Houston area coaches. Charlery, a defensive lineman, helped his East squad to a decisive 62-21 win over the West team. The game was played at Barbers Hill ISD’s Eagle Stadium.

The Bayou Bowl isn’t Charlery’s first all-star accolade. He was on the 2023 8-5A All-District Second Team following a season during which the Bulldogs won their first district championship since 2016.
