The book fair is almost here. The school is conducting a coin war through this week as a fundraising effort for the fair.

Ms. Gorsky has milk jugs in the library and all students were given a zip-lock baggie to bring in the change from home. Curent Grades 3-5 are in the lead. K-2 is closing in and 6-8 still have shot, please look around the house and send it what you can.

Phonemic Awareness:

• Play sound-based games like "I spy" focusing on initial sounds.
• Say a word and have your child clap for each sound they hear.
• Break words into individual sounds and blend them together

• Point out letter-sound relationships while reading.
• Practice sounding out new words together.
• Use flashcards with letter-sound pairings.

• Read books repeatedly to build fluency and expression.
• Have your child read a passage aloud and provide feedback.

• Discuss new words encountered in the story.

• Explain the meaning of words in context.

• Encourage children to use new words in conversation.

• Ask open-ended questions about the story to check understanding.
• Have your child summarize key points of the story.
• Encourage predictions about what might happen next.
