Coin Wars
The book fair is almost here. The school is conducting a coin war through this week as a fundraising effort for the fair.
Ms. Gorsky has milk jugs in the library and all students were given a zip-lock baggie to bring in the change from home. Curent Grades 3-5 are in the lead. K-2 is closing in and 6-8 still have shot, please look around the house and send it what you can.

Science of Reading focus areas for home:
Phonemic Awareness:
- Play sound-based games like "I spy" focusing on initial sounds.
- Say a word and have your child clap for each sound they hear.
- Break words into individual sounds and blend them together
- Point out letter-sound relationships while reading.
- Practice sounding out new words together.
- Use flashcards with letter-sound pairings.
- Read books repeatedly to build fluency and expression.
- Have your child read a passage aloud and provide feedback.
- Discuss new words encountered in the story.
Explain the meaning of words in context.
- Encourage children to use new words in conversation.
- Ask open-ended questions about the story to check understanding.
- Have your child summarize key points of the story.
- Encourage predictions about what might happen next.
