Dear Alta Mesa Families,

We are in our last week of state testing for our 3rd-5th graders!! Our students have been working so hard, and I'm very proud of them. Please continue to support your child by getting them a great breakfast and plenty of rest at night!

This will be the last week of Garden Club. 4/5 Sports will continue through the next couple weeks. We have a home game on Tuesday for both flag football and softball. Our flag football team will be at home against Mistletoe on Thursday. There will be no softball game on Thursday.

I would like to take this opportunity to announce to Alta Mesa families that I will not be returning next year as principal. I have accepted a position at the Shasta County Office of Education. It has been a honor and privilege to serve as Alta Mesa's principal for the last 5 years. I am excited for what the future holds for Alta Mesa and will keep you updated as the process to fill the principal position for the 24-25 school year progresses. The Alta Mesa school community has been so supportive and I want to thank you all for making this school such an amazing place!!!

We still have four weeks of school to go before summer!!! It's going to be an amazing time!!! Let's work together to finish strong!

The purposed of the California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress (CAASPP) System is to assist teachers, administrators, students, and parents by promoting high-quality teaching and learning through the use of a variety of assessment approaches and item types.

This year testing will start on Tuesday, May 7th and will go through Thursday, May 16th. Testing is scheduled for two weeks because we only test students for an hour and a half each morning. Here are a few helpful tips for making sure your student is ready to go for testing:

• Ensure they arrive to school on time (8:05 for 4/5th grade, 8:20 for 3rd grade)
• Please refrain from scheduling appointments in the mornings as that is when our testing will be taking place
• Make sure your student has a healthy breakfast each day (our cafeteria has the best school breakfast in all the county)
• Make sure students are well rested and in bed on time
  

Wednesday, May 22nd is Parsons Invasion Day for 5th grade students. This is a fun event for students so we hope all 5th graders are able to attend. The day starts out with a tour where students get to see the 6th grade classes, cafeteria, library, and gym. Then all students will attend a band and choir performance!

Open House will be Tuesday, May 28th. Parents/Guardians will start in the gym at 5:30 for Mr. Miller's welcome and opening remarks. Booster Club will follow with an Ice Cream Social for students and families and then classrooms will open up at 6:00PM.

On Wednesday, May 29th there will be music performances for 3rd-5th graders. Students will perform 3 pieces of music and will be demonstrating what they have learned throughout the year. Invitations will be coming home soon!

Thanks to our wonderful Booster Club and all the fundraising we have done over the school year there will not be a fee for the Aquatic Center field trip. Our trip is planned for Thursday, May 30th and have the Aquatic Center reserved for three hours! The buses will pick us up at 8:40 and drop us off at 9:00 and will pick us up from the Aquatic Center around 12:15.

Aquatic Center reminders:

• Make sure your student is wearing their swim suit and has a change of clothes
• Apply sunscreen on your student before they arrive to school - students are allowed to bring sunscreen but will have to apply it themselves or have his/her own parent assist
• Bring a towel
• Make sure your student arrives to school on time because the buses cannot wait, we will be leaving promptly at 8:40
  

On Friday, May 31st we will be hosting our trimester 3 awards assembly. Teachers will reach out to parents individually if students are receiving awards.
