SRO Corner
October SRO Corner
Traffic Safety
Welcome to the October SRO corner where we will address some of the most impactful traffic safety issues as they relate to schools. For both parents and student drivers, safety in school zones is crucial. These areas have reduced speed limits, with speeds posted between 15-25 mph, to protect students during busy drop-off and pick-up times. Whether you're dropping off a child, sibling or driving yourself, always slow down and stay alert in these zones. When a school bus extends its stop arm to pick up or drop off students, all vehicles in both directions must stop to allow kids to cross safely. Ignoring school zone speed limits or a bus's stop arm not only puts young lives at risk but can also result in serious fines or penalties. The SRO Unit and Fort Collins Police are actively enforcing school zones so please stay focused and prioritize safety for everyone.

Technology Student Association Applications 24-25
Are you passionate about technology, design, engineering, or leadership? The Technology Student Association (TSA) is a national organization that allows students to explore careers in STEM, engage in hands-on projects, and compete in over 70 events from robotics to digital design. By joining TSA, you’ll have the opportunity to learn new skills, work on exciting projects, and compete at local, state, and national levels!
Please fill out this application form to express your interest in joining TSA and becoming part of a community where technology and leadership go hand-in-hand. We’re looking for motivated students ready to innovate, collaborate, and create!
We will meet mostly during ELO but there may be a few after school meetings if you are intending to compete at the State Conference in Denver in February. There will be additional fees if we travel to state. More details to be announced.
You should review the link below that shows all the middle school competitive events to see which ones might be interesting to you.

To apply, submit a fully edited video introducing yourself, explaining why you want to join, and sharing a segment idea you’d like to see on KLIB. Remember, your face or voice doesn’t have to appear in the video—just show us your creativity, skills, and excitement to be a part of our crew!
Applications will be judged on creativity, engagement, and video editing (don’t worry if you’re new to editing, we just want to see your effort!).

NJHS Information
Hello 7th and 8th grade Lesher Students!
It’s time to apply for National Junior Honor Society-- also called NJHS. If you were already accepted into this last year, you don’t need to reapply-- you’re automatically in.
It is considered a great honor to be accepted into NJHS, and it is a recognition that many people notice if it is on your resume when you apply for future organizations and jobs.
NJHS runs a great deal of service activities at Lesher such as collecting food for the local food bank, creating cards and decorations for local nursing homes, setting up the Adopt-a-Family holiday gift drive, hosting staff appreciation events, taking part in Lesher’s campus clean-up days, and much more!
To apply to join this wonderful organization, check out the link on Lesher’s webpage. The application is open to only 7th and 8th graders who were on the gold or blue honor roll at the end of last year and are willing to participate in our quarterly meetings and at least one NJHS service project. The deadline to apply is Friday, September 27. For more information, talk to
Mr. T, or Mr. Warchola.

District Informational Sessions about Mill Levy
Sept. 16, 2024
Dear PSD community:
At their Aug. 27, 2024, meeting, the Poudre School District Board of Education voted unanimously to refer a mill levy question to the Nov. 5, 2024, ballot. This mill levy, if approved by voters, will provide $49 million per year to improve and extend the useful life of the district’s school buildings and will allow the district to reprioritize more of its general fund for the recruitment and retention of teachers and staff, classroom resources, career and technical education, and neighborhood schools.
To ensure that our community has factual information about this mill levy, the district will host a series of community information sessions in September and October. These are open to the public and anyone who wishes to come learn more about the ballot measure and how it would impact the PSD system and our community are welcome. Each session will share the same information.
Information sessions will take place:
- Monday, Sept. 23, at 6 p.m., Poudre High School Theater, 201 S. Impala Dr., Fort Collins
- Thursday, Sept. 26, at 5:30 p.m., Fossil Ridge High School Performing Arts Center, 5400 Ziegler Road, Fort Collins
- Wednesday, Oct. 2, at 6 p.m., Timnath Middle-High School Auditorium, 4700 Prospect Road, Timnath
- Thursday, Oct. 3, at 5:30 p.m., Wellington Middle-High School Auditorium, 2856 Cleveland Ave., Wellington
- Wednesday, Oct. 9, at 6 p.m., Rocky Mountain High School Theater, 1300 W. Swallow Road, Fort Collins
- Tuesday, Oct. 15, at 5:30 p.m., Fort Collins High School Theater, 3400 Lambkin Way, Fort Collins
- Thursday, Oct. 17, at 5:30 p.m. at the Future Ready Center inside Foothills mall
The information sessions are being offered for transparency purposes only; these are not campaign events.
Simultaneous interpretation and translation via the district’s Instant Language Assistant (ILA) devices will be available at all sessions. If you would like oral interpretation, please bring wireless headphones that connect to your device to listen to the presentation.

Lesher Minecraft Tour!
Over the past 2 years, Design Club has been busy building a scale model of Lesher in Minecraft! We used Google Earth to measure an outline from above – each block was ½ meter in length. They took pictures of every classroom and made sure every single detail was accounted for – down to the color of the flooring to Mr. Swann on hall duty in the front. They used redstone (it’s a special kind of Minecraft block that is like electricity) to power lights, run water to the water fountains, and play a special tune when you press a button at the front door.
Evie Eslinger, Esther Johnson, and Emilia Mellizo Kroll have been integral as the ‘mayors’ of this online community. They have presented their work at several teacher trainings at the district level!
Last week, this video was presented to 5th graders and they loved seeing their new school!
