Bell Schedule for Wednesday, March 19
MEDIA CENTER CLOSINGS BEGIN THIS WEEK
Due to AP Research Presentations, the Media Center will be CLOSED during 4th and 5th periods through March 28. The only exception will be Friday, March 21, when we will be open all periods. The Media Center opens at 7:45 each morning and closes at 3:45 each afternoon.
We will resume normal operations when we return from Spring Break. We apologize for the inconvenience.
NEW CHECK-IN / CHECK-OUT PROCESS
All CCSD schools have a new check-in/check-out process in place. To make the process go as quickly as possible, all students are asked to follow one of these options:
1. Bring your student ID card (with barcode) to school with you every day.
OR
2. Download the STUDENTVUE app. Once logged in to the app, students should click on the menu at the bottom left of the screen and choose "ID CARD" (see image below). It is suggested that students screenshot the QR code or the barcode (either will work) and save to their favorites for easy access.
When checking in or checking out, students will simply scan their ID card/QR code/barcode and receive a printed receipt.

Delta Kappa Gamma Scholarship
Delta Kappa Gamma is an international organization of female educators. Its purpose is to "promote professional and personal growth of women educators and excellence in education." Gamma Eta, the Cherokee County chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma, recognizes and supports future female educators by providing a yearly $1500 scholarship to a female Cherokee County graduate who plans to attend college to receive a degree in Education, with the purpose of becoming a teacher. Please see attachment for details. Deadline is April 11.

Mayor's Youth Leadership Academy
Provides rising high school juniors and seniors with a deeper understanding of the role of local government while developing valuable leadership skills. In partnership with the University of Georgia’s J.W. Fanning Institute for Leadership. Youth will participate in visits to city departments, sessions with instructors from the J.W. Fanning Institute for Leadership, meetings with City Directors, and a City Council Meeting. Application deadline is April 30.
UGA Extension Master Gardener Scholarship
The Cherokee County UGA Extension master gardener volunteer group is awarding 3 $1,000 scholarships for graduating seniors pursuing science related (Horticulture, Ag, Botany, Env Science, Forestry, Biology, Entomology) degrees. Deadline is March 31. Please see attachment to apply.
Mountain Road ES PE teacher Kristy Reidy is Retiring
Join us in celebrating Mrs. Kristy Reidy’s retirement!

Chiefs Tutoring (formerly known as Night School)
ASVAB Testing
The Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB) is a multiple-aptitude battery that measures developed abilities and helps predict future academic and occupational success in the military. It is administered annually and will be given at SHS on March 28 at 8:30am in room SE128. Please use the QR code to sign up.
Online Tutoring Program Available for High School Students
A new online tutoring program now is available for high school students at no cost!
GaTutor at https://gatutor.org/ is the Georgia Department of Education’s new tutoring program supported by Georgia Virtual Learning and offered online through Zoom.
High school students can receive online tutoring at no cost for core academic classes in English language arts, math, social studies and science.
The 25-minute sessions are led by Georgia certified educators with subject expertise and are available from 4 to 10 p.m. Mondays through Fridays, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturdays and 1 to 8 p.m. Sundays.
Students need to sign up in advance through the SLDS student portal, which they can access through their CCSD Canvas student account, up to one week in advance and at least two hours prior to the session start time.

Bridgemill Sixes Service League Scholarships
The Bridgemill Sixes Service League (BSSL) is awarding two (2) Lexine Harper Scholarships in partnership with ChefAdvantage, each of which is $4000.
Community service is the primary mission of the BSSL; our scholarship is open to any graduating student from a Cherokee County high school, whether public or private, and is based entirely on the students’ demonstration of community service. The students can perform these acts of service within the community, school, or place of worship.
Please advise your students to go to our webpage at www.bssl.org to download the application. All applications must be postmarked no later than April 11, 2025, to be eligible for consideration. We ask that NO PHOTOS be submitted.
Cherokee County School District Support Services Memorial Scholarship
The Support Services Memorial Scholarship Fund will award a $1,868.48 scholarship to two Class of 2025 graduating seniors currently attending a Cherokee County School District High School.
Applicants must be planning to attend a Technical/Vocational School or have been accepted into a technical/vocational apprenticeship program.
Deadline to apply is April 15.
Footprints of Kindness Scholarship
Two $500 Footprints of Kindness Legacy Scholarships are now available! "At Footprints of Kindness, we believe in the power of individuals to shape the world around them. Our Legacy Scholarship seeks students who are committed to making a positive impact on the world around them."

Arbor Place Eye Care Scholarship
Arbor Place Eye Care is excited to announce a special scholarship opportunity for high school seniors in our community! We invite you to share this wonderful opportunity with your senior students who meet the eligibility criteria.

Arbor Place Eye Care Scholarship Application
Eligibility Criteria for the Arbor Place Eye Care Scholarship:
To be considered for this scholarship, applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Be a current high school senior
- Be a resident of Douglasville, East Point, or Woodstock, GA
- Maintain a minimum 3.5 GPA on a 4.0 scale
- Submit a personal statement (250 words minimum)
- Provide one letter of recommendation
- Participate in extracurricular activities and community service
Application Deadline: April 1, 2025
Scholarship Details:
- The scholarship is open to students enrolling full-time at an accredited college, university, or community college.
- This scholarship is non-renewable and will be awarded directly to the recipient’s college of choice.
- A complete application includes: transcript, personal statement, and letter of recommendation.
- Three $1,000 scholarships will be awarded—one each to a resident of Douglasville, East Point, and Woodstock, GA.
- Each scholarship recipient will also receive a complimentary eye examto ensure they are visually prepared for college!

Camp MAGIK
Camp MAGIK, a healing camp for bereaved children and adolescents, is announcing its Spring 2025 camp sessions. These sessions will be held at The Calvin Center in Hampton, GA, April 25-27, 2025 and at the Cherokee Retreat Center in White, GA May 2-4, 2025. Applications need to be postmarked or emailed to us no later than April 11 and April 18 respectively. We will provide free transportation to camp and back based on need.
Camp MAGIK is well suited to all youth ages 6 through 18 who have experienced the death of a parent, sibling or other close loved one, especially youth who have experienced traumatic death. Professional bereavement counselors, trained in grief and trauma, lead all counseling sessions. This is our 30th year providing this evidence-based service to the community.
There is also a retreat available for adults who want to process their own grief with other adults who are grieving.
Our camp sessions are FREE OF CHARGE to all participating children, adolescents and parents/guardians. Please see attached announcements for details and application.
AMERICAN LEGION LADIES AUXILIARY UNIT 201 SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM
American Legion Unit 201 Ladies Auxiliary awards 3 scholarships each year to qualified applicants. All scholarships are $1000. Guidelines and application are attached. ALL APPLICATIONS MUST BE IN BY APRIL 15.

Jason T. Dickerson Family Foundation (JTDFF) Scholarship

THREE $25,000 scholarships to 2025 graduating seniors who plan to pursue a degree in a field of study limited to Veterinary Medicine are available! Application deadline is April 18, 2025.
American Legion: Boys/Girls State Contest
Valdosta State University, Valdosta, GA
June 8-14 2025
American Legion Boys State is a unique summertime educational program for students that have completed their
junior year of high school. It focuses on participation and personal experience in a model state, complete with
governmental bodies and elected public officials. It is designed to mirror the structure and operation of its
respective state government while providing training in practical citizenship, leadership and character development
through a non-partisan perspective. Participants attend a 7-day program where they stay at the university’s
campus. For more information go to www.dogboysstate.org. American Legion Post 316 sponsors the candidates and
pays the tuition for accepted candidates. Interviews must take place prior to applying for Boys State which must be
received by Post 316 by April 15,2025.

American Legion Girls State is a unique summertime educational program for students that have completed their
junior year of high school. It focuses on participation and personal experience in a model state, complete with
governmental bodies and elected public officials. It is designed to mirror the structure and operation of its
respective state government while providing training in practical citizenship, leadership and character development
through a non-partisan perspective. American Legion Post 316 sponsors the girls. Participants attend a 6-day
program where they stay at the university’s campus. For more information go to www.georgiagirlsstate.org. The
American Legion Post 316 must conduct interviews prior to making application (the website indicates it will only
take online applications, but Post 316 must interview candidates and will pay the tuition for accepted candidates).
Applications must be received by Post 316 by April 15, 2025.

If you will be riding a bus to and from school or just one way, be sure you check the bus info icon on the SHS webpage or click here. Once on the look up page please follow the eLink User Instructions so you know your bus number and pick-up/drop-off times.

Parking Information
Parking Space Update – There are no longer any parking spots available. Any student turning in an application will go on a waitlist and receive a spot based on the order of the waitlist. Your cash/check will not be deposited until your student receives a spot. Seniors will be placed at the top of the waitlist, followed by juniors, then sophomores. Students must submit a parking application with all required documentation and payment prior to being placed on the waitlist. All parking questions can be emailed to Angie.Geiger@cherokeek12.net.
Check-Out Procedures
Student Non-Drivers
If you are checking out your student who is a non-driver, you must come to Sequoyah main campus and show your ID. The person checking out the student must be on the student's contact list. The student will then be called out of class at that time. Emails for non-driving students requesting they be allowed to check out are NOT permitted. The last time students are allowed to be picked up before dismissal is 2:45pm.
Student Drivers
All student drivers are required to have a paid parking permit in order to drive and park on campus. We must have an email giving permission for that student to leave. Please email shs.attendance@cherokeek12.net and send the email as early in the day as possible.
