Bus Assemblies This Week!
For all of our students that take the bus, we'll be having short assemblies with our bus drivers to go over behavior expectations and consequences for misbehavior on the bus.
Please remember, being able to ride the bus is a privilege, and it's critical that our students demonstrate behavior that will allow the bus driver to focus on the task of driving our students safely from point A to point B. Students demonstrating unsafe behaviors or behaviors that can distract the bus driver are at risk of losing bus-riding privileges.
Below is a preview of the information we'll be sharing at our bus assemblies.
Second Chance Applications are OPEN!
In order to attend our Halloween Dance on October 24, students must have:
- fewer than 4 tardies since September 9
- NO suspensions since the beginning of the year
If your student missed the criteria to be eligible, THERE IS STILL A CHANCE!
Students must complete the SECOND CHANCE application (link below) by Tuesday, October 15 by noon. The Second Chance committee will reach out to students letting them know their application has been approved. If approved, students will need to:
- pick up a check in/check out sheet during their lunch on Wednesday, October 16
- get the check in/check out filled out by each teacher every day until Wednesday, October 23
- meet with the Second Chance Committee on Wednesday, October 23 and bring their check in/check out sheet (Mrs. Kasper will let students know what time they're meeting with the committee)
After the meetings, the committee will let students know if they're able to attend and will allow them to purchase a ticket that day!
Click below for the Second Chance application. There will also be paper copies available in the main office.
Lighthouse Halloween Events - We Need You!
Our Student Lighthouse group is so excited about our Halloween events! We are in need of donations and chaperones, set up and clean up help for our Halloween Dance on the 24th and the Haunted Library on the 31st. Please click on the attached links if you are interested. Please note, if you would like to chpaerone, you must have a current ICHAT form on file. We greatly appreciate your help!
Halloween Dance is Thursday, October 24
Halloween dance tickets are on sale every day at lunch through Friday October 18. Tickets are $5, cash only. Students will not get a physical ticket; their name will be on a list and they MUST have their ID to enter the dance on October 24th. No ID, no entry.
Missing a Student ID?
Students can request a replacement ID on the Student Hub. After they complete the ID Request Form, they will need to see Ms. Greenshields to retrieve their ID. IDs will not be provided during 1st and 4th hours. The first replacement ID will be free, any ID requested afterward will cost $5 or 100 PBIS Points. Any student who was not photographed by LifeTouch will need to have their picture taken on Retake Day on October 8th.
RAPS Focus Areas for October
Take a look at our focus areas for RAPS in October. This month we'll focus on Accountability and Pride. In each class every day, students are able to earn 2 PBIS points for following the behavior expectations in this area. Students will be able to use their PBIS points to purchase items in our school store, replacement IDs, and admission to sporting events next season.
8th Grade Career Tech Visits on October 22
The William D. Ford Career Tech. Center has invited our 8th graders to visit the CTE during the school day on Tuesday October 22nd. Our eighth grade students will be transported via district school bus to and from Stevenson to the Career Tech Center. During this time, our eighth graders will get the opportunity to explore different programs offered at the Career Tech.Center via hands-on activities and presentations.
If you DO NOT want your child to attend this field trip, please reach out to your child's counselor by October 17th. If you’d like your child to attend this field trip, there is no need for you to do anything!

Students from the Circle of Friends group and the College Bound Girls group took a field trip to Oakwoods Nature Center. Arrival and Dismissal at SMS
As you may have discovered this past week, arrival and dismissal is a busy time at Stevenson Middle School! In order to ensure the safety of our students, families, and employees during this time, please be sure to follow these guidelines:
- Drive all the way around the building to drop off and pick up your student (see the picture below)
- Pull all the way up in the drop-off/pick-up line, and have your student ready to get out of the car quickly. This prevents delays and traffic backups.
- Please be sure to be in the correct lane for pick up and drop off. If you will be turning left onto Palmer, please remain in the LEFT drop-off/pick-up lane. If you will be turning right onto Palmer, please remain in the RIGHT drop-off/pick-up lane. This will avoid dangerous lane changes while students are exiting and entering vehicles.
- Do not drop your student off in Palmer Road.
- Cross Palmer Road at designated crosswalks ONLY.
- Because of dismissal is a high-traffic time, parents will not be able to come in to excuse students after 2:20 pm. If you need to pick your child up early, please plan to come before that time.
Thank you for your understanding!
Tutoring Available!
What, Who, & Where We Are: The Learning Lab is a tutoring and academic enrichment program that is free to all Wayne-Westland students grades 4-12. We have been operating since January 2016, and for the past eight years, we have served hundreds of students from our community. Learning Lab is staffed with certified teachers (most from WWCSD!) who can assist students with their academic needs. We are located in a classroom at the Jefferson Barns Community Vitality Center at 32150 Dorsey in the Norwayne neighborhood of Westland.
Hours of Operation: We are open Monday through Thursday from 3pm-6pm, but we're closed on days when Wayne-Westland Community Schools is. This includes breaks (except for special programs, and in those events additional information will be shared), snow days, and teacher professional development days.
Registration: The registration process is simple, but students and families must register on our website before the student's first visit.
Family Resource Center
Wayne-Westland Community Schools has a Family Resource Center (FRC), offering free services to all students and families within our district. Among the services provided are basic needs assistance, access to over 700 local resources, and a Laundry Assistance Program. Additionally, the FRC offers essential items, such as emergency toiletries, socks, underwear, hats, gloves, and scarves, to those in need. School supplies and backpacks are also available year-round for any district student.
Please contact our Family Resource Center at 734-419-2709 or FRC@wwcsd.net. A Digital Request for Services Form is also available. If you have additional questions about their services, please contact the Family Resource Center directly.
