The 2023-2024 scholarship application window has closed. To meet the needs of our students, we extended the deadline to March 1, 2024. Thank you to everyone that applied and to everyone who spread the word. Because of your support, we received over 140 applications this year! We know the cost of education can be a huge barrier, especially for LGBTQ+ students, and it is our mission to relieve that stress as much as possible. Additionally, we have secured a venue and date for the scholarship award banquet. Keep an eye on your email! We will be sending information out to donors, sponsors, and scholarship recipients in the coming weeks.

Over the last couple of months, we have started the process of moving our website to a more user-friendly platform. Bear with us as we finish these updates, and stay tuned for the new and improved site to go live!

We are rolling out an amazing feature for our volunteers. POINT is an easy, and effective way to manage, engage, and mobilize volunteers. We truly believe this application will prove to be a more effective way to collaborate and connect all of us with events and our community.

We are looking for a couple of individuals that are passionate about the LGBTQ+ community (and education) to join our board! These are volunteer positions and include: Members at Large and Website Manager. Submit your resume and letter of intent to: contact@outforeducation.org, or reach out to a current board member for more information.

After a few years hiatus, the board has decided to bring back monthly happy hours!

This January, we were lucky enough to partner with Pearl Bar and Houston's New Faces of Pride to be their beneficiary. The turnout was wonderful! Pearl's Side Peace was packed from wall to wall with so much positive energy. Oh yea, and the drinks were amazing! Be on the lookout for our next happy hour.

The Houston Bar Association’s LGBTQ+ Committee hosted its 3rd Annual Mardi Gras Party at Brennan’s of Houston. Out For Education is honored to have been selected as their beneficiary for this amazing event. HBA LGBTQ Committee also graciously donated over $5K to the OFE scholarship fund, which doubled last years amount! Thank you to everyone who attended, sponsored, and helped.

Out for Education held our second annual Valentine’s Day Love (not so) Straight Up fundraiser at Spring Street Studios. Our wonderful host and board member Hu’nee B hosted this fantastic event. We had light bites, open bar, drag performances, and a silent auction. Thank you to all our sponsors, and attendees!

Barry's Houston graciously hosted an exhilarating fitness experience we coined "Barry's Boost for Education: Ignite the Future Fundraiser". Instructor James lead a 50-minute full body workout. Collectively, over $500 dollars was raised to support OFE's scholarship fund. Thanks to all those that participated and donated. We know it's another level of support to sweat it out at a boot-camp for a fundraiser, so thank you all again!

As many of y'all already know, our wonderful board member Ryan, aka Ms. Shenita Q Pon, was the reigning 2023 Miss Lone Star Volleyball Association. This year's Miss LSVA pageant theme was Hunger Games and it did not disappoint! South Beach was a packed house. Huge kudos to all the performers, y'all killed it! The LSVA community came out in full force and fully funded our newest endowment: The Liz Leonard Happel Memorial Scholarship Fund. LSVA also contributed a VERY GENEROUS donation on top of this! Thank You! Thank You! Thank you all!
