Welcome back to everyone and a special welcome to all our new whānau joining us this term. I hope your holiday was refreshing and our tamariki are energised ready for an exciting term ahead.

Showquest rehearsals are once again in full swing this term. The Showquest children are working very hard and we are so lucky to have Mrs Stananought to guide our students through this fantastic experience. Ardmore School has enjoyed much success over the years of involvement in Showquest so we wish them well as they approach the competition.

Eid was celebrated around the world on the 22nd of April. This marks the end of the holy month of Ramadam where fasting is observed from dawn to dusk each day. Some of our students at Ardmore School were fasting during Ramadan and celebrated Eid with their families during the school holidays. Last week, we had some activities in our library to learn about Eid. Students participated in making lanterns and Eid greeting cards to celebrate Eid.

Well done to our Kids' Lit Quiz Team who travelled to St Cuthbert's College today to compete in the annual Kids' Lit Quiz competition. The competition is designed for Year 5-8s.

Teams of four students are asked to answer 100 questions on children’s literature divided into ten categories, which vary each year. Students have the opportunity to win cash prizes. This year's Kids' Lit Team: Ruzena Piggott, Jayden Sardelich, Selwyn Bredesen, Gurveer Singh, Joann Rose Arun, Savannah Viall, Sadie Glass & Sophie McCann.

School starts at 9am. Please endeavour to have your tamariki here on time. The start of the day contains very important routines to help tamariki settle for a day of learning.

The Ministry of Education track attendance and we are alarmed at the number of Ardmore children arriving late regularly every morning.

Please keep sick children at home. If your child has a vomiting bug we ask that you keep them home for 48 hours after their last vomit. Covid is still out there. People with Covid must remain home for 7 days. If there is Covid in the house children may attend school as long as they test negative and are not symptomatic.

We want to keep everyone safe.

Due to family circumstances Mr Kyle Rush has resigned from his teaching position in Room 6. We know the children will miss him but we wish Mr Rush all the best for the future. Ms Peterson is looking after Room 6 until a new teacher is secured.

A warm welcome to Mr Frank Godden who has joined us as the classroom teacher in Room 7.

Increasingly, we are noticing that many of our students are grappling with personal issues which have a direct impact on their mental, social and academic well being. These issues may include - friendship, conflict, change, resilience, growth mindset or anxiety.

Teachers are not trained to provide professional counselling support we are, however, fortunate to have Auckland University of Technology (AUT) student, Zak, working within our school. Zak is on practicum here whilst studying and therefore receives support and professional supervision from AUT. He will be on practicum at Ardmore School until the end of the year and will possibly continue into 2024. Zak will be able to offer support for our children one day a week. Children can be referred by

• parents who have a concern with their child
• teachers and parents who have discussed concerns together
• Older students who can self refer with permission from their parents

Parental consent will always be needed before any contact is made with your child. Consent forms are available from the school office or your child may ask their classroom teacher. We have also included a consent form below.

• Thursday 11 May - Hot Dog Lunch - order through KINDO. Orders must be made by Tuesday 9 May. No late orders accepted. Please remember this is a fundraising event.
