Principal's Notes
This Sunday, we observe Quadragesima Sunday, also known as the First Sunday of Lent. The word “Quadragesima” comes from the Latin for “fortieth,” marking the beginning of the 40-day journey of Lent—a time for reflection, renewal, and growth.
As we continue through Lent, we will remind our students of its three central themes: prayer, fasting, and almsgiving. These values will be reinforced in our daily messages, encouraging students to reflect, show self-discipline, and help others.
I hope this season brings renewal and meaningful moments for you and your families.
Also, be sure to check out the details for this Sunday’s Abington St. Patrick’s Day Parade—always a great time! Fingers crossed for good weather!
All my best,
Matthew Collins
Principal
St. Patricks Day Parade - Sunday, March 16th
Come help us throw celebrate Saint Patrick’s Day! SBS will continue our long tradition of participating in the Abington St. Patrick's Day Parade. This is a fun family event and great way to participate in the town event. Please use the link below to sign up so we can get a headcount:
Students need to march with a parent and or guardian
- You must be at the school parking lot by 11:30 am to ride over to the parade starting point with us, or meet us at our parade starting point by 12:30 pm to walk with the float
- ALL CHILDREN who are riding on the float MUST REMAIN SEATED at all times, so please bring a pillow and/or blanket for comfort
- The truck will bring riders back to the school parking lot
- Dress for the weather (hats and gloves encouraged)
Note: if you bring candy please avoid peanut products
We will be lining up at the same place we have for the last several years, at the end of Thaxter Ave. We are in the second division and will start shortly after the beginning of the parade. The parade ends at the Cellar Tavern in Abington. The float will return to the school parking lot.
If anyone would like to help set up the float, please reach out to the PTO! sbspto@stbridgetschool.us
Faith Formation - Weekly Aspirations
Matthew 4:1-2 “Then Jesus was led by the Spirit into the desert to be tempted by the devil. He fasted for forty days and forty nights, and afterwards he was hungry.”
Jesus, help me set aside time for prayer and reflection in this season of Lent. Help me understand you more deeply.
Teacher Spotlight - Mrs. Read - Grade 6 Writing
In Mrs. Read’s sixth grade writing class the students have been writing friendly letters using the friendly letter writing format. The students were instructed to write a friendly letter thanking someone who did something for them. They needed to write about what the person did and how that made them feel. Some students chose to write letters to their parents and they thanked them for all the wonderful things that moms and dads do for their children. Other students chose to thank a friend, a coach, or a grandparent.
After writing their friendly letters, the students had the opportunity to read their letters out loud to the class and Mrs. Read also encouraged the students to share their letters. Despite the prevalence of technology as communication, letter writing continues to be an important skill. This letter writing activity improves communication, encourages good social skills, and provides students an opportunity to share their thankfulness.
Mrs. Read’s favorites: holiday: Thanksgiving; cookie: gingersnap; flower: Rosa Rugosa; place to shop: Etsy; season: spring; Disney character: Tinker Bell and Donald Duck.
