Dimond Newsletter
November 12, 2024
Dear Dimond Families:
With the snow and then the cold, our parking lots and walkways are pretty icy. We throw gravel on all of our sidewalks, but wind and thaw can sometimes encapsulate the gravel before we can get to it again. ASD Department of Operations plows and gravels our parking lots. With that said, we know the parking lots and sidewalks are still very slick. Please walk carefully (shuffle your feet or walk like a duck). Thank you for driving safely in the dark mornings, and watching for students walking across the drop off lane. We all want everyone to arrive safely to school!
Warm Regards,
Principal D’Atri

Map Testing
This winter, students will be taking the MAP Growth Assessment during the testing window which occurs December 2nd-13th. The assessments will be taking place during Math and Language Arts classes as part of the curriculum for the course. MAP growth assessments are important benchmark assessments that help measure student learning throughout the year and ensure proper placement in students' courses. Their assessments are also great predictors of student success in classes as well as nationwide tests such as the PSAT and SAT.

Tardy Culture
As we welcomed students to school in the mornings, we counted how many students arrived after the tardy bell. For the week of October 14th, there were upwards of 70-100 students walking in tardy each day. That is 5% of our whole student body! This indicates a culture of tardiness that does not serve students well in their employment beyond high school. Tardiness also sends a message to our community that school time isn’t important. In an effort to change a culture of tardiness, the student services team started implementing the following strategies last week:
Each morning there will be a table set out for students who come in after the bell. They will fill out a “tardy slip” with their name, the time, and where they are going. This is NOT punitive. It is for letting staff know why students are in the hall and where they are going.
We will conduct one random tardy sweep per day (between 2nd and 6th hour) for the next two weeks, then three times a week after that. If a student is found in the hall when the late bell rings, they will receive an automatic detention to be served within two days.
Monday is “Tardy Monday.” Our Attendance Office will run a report in the morning that details each student’s tardies from the previous week. If the student has 4 tardies, they will be served a lunch detention and their parents will be called. If they have 8 or more for the week, they will be assigned a day of ISS by Assistant Principal Hayden.

Urgent Call for PTSA Board Members & Volunteers
The Dimond PTSA is in urgent need of volunteers to fill the roles of Treasurer, Secretary, and President. These positions are currently held by parents whose students graduated in May, and we are ready to pass these responsibilities to current Dimond parents.
We understand time is valuable, and these roles do not require extensive hours—just a small but meaningful commitment to help support our school community.
If you’re interested in any of these positions, or would like more information, please reach out to us at DimondPtsaboard@gmail.com or send us a message on Facebook.
Thank you for considering this opportunity to get involved and make a difference at Dimond High!
This message highlights the urgency, the limited time commitment, and how easy it is to get involved.
Lynx Lair
Parent volunteers are in vital need to keep the lynx lair open daily. We are currently operating only 3 days a week. Without being fully open we lose almost $300 in sales everyday we are not open. That would be money going back to our students and staff through numerous grants. So far this year, with the loss of sales, we will be awarding 12 less grants.
Working in the lynx lair is only during student lunch and includes selling snacks, drinks and smoothies to staff and Students. You will not have to work by yourself, we always try to have 2-3 volunteers per day. If you are available Monday or Tuesdays please let us know and we will get you trained.
