Principal Message
Hello Seahawks! During this last week of October we participated in the Red Ribbon Week. Red Ribbon Week is a nationwide drug and violence prevention awareness campaign. Our students wore red ribbons, wore the color red and signed the pledge to remain drug free. Some of our students traveled to Bethel for the Sources of Strength annual peer training. Sources of Strength is a youth mental health and suicide prevention program designed to create healthy norms and culture, ultimately preventing suicide, violence, bullying, and substance misuse. Our wrestling team traveled to Anchorage to compete in the Mountain City Academy match, and towards the end of the week our students enjoyed the halloween costume contest and voted in the student council election. Finally, the students that have had exceptional behavior and academics all month were invited to the SOAR game room.
As we move into the first week of November we will celebrate Sprit Week. Each day there will be a different activity the students and teachers can participate in. Spirit weeks can be a great way to improve morale, reduce stress, and create a sense of community. Our students will also participate in presentations and activities with the Pūkorokoro Shorebird Centre . The Pūkorokoro Shorebird Centre is a nature education and research organization in New Zealand. The Centre has been a partner in the shorebird outreach program, and have worked with schools all across Alaska. Lastly, we will have our first "Books and Blanket" family literacy night to promote the importance of reading and writing. We look forward to seeing all of the families come to participate.
