BORMAN BLAST
SEPTEMBER 2024 FAMILY NEWSLETTER
Family Newsletter for November
WHAT'S BEEN HAPPENING?
Hello Families! First, I want to thank you all for a wonderful first quarter! Teachers are working hard to help your student work to their highest academic, behavioral, and social emotional potential. First quarter benchmarks showed us what students have learned and what needs to be retaught. The state of Arizona finally released school letter grades and Borman is an "A" rated school again! It was tough keeping this one a secret, but I am so proud and happy for our community to have this distinguished rating. We have to continue to work hard, have students achieve proficiency, and continue to show academic growth. We appreciate your support as always.
November is American Indian Heritage Month, then we have a couple of major holidays with Veteran's Day and Thanksgiving, but being in the Southwest, Dia De Los Muertos is a big one in Tucson. The All Souls Procession on Sunday November 3rd in downtown Tucson is a world famous sight to behold. It's a great family friendly event, but I know Sunday night makes it a bit difficult.
I want to give PTO a HUGE shout out for all their hard work preparing for and putting on the Fall Festival Trunk or Treat, Boo Grams, and Cookie Sales. This is no easy task and these ladies hit it out of the park! We were happy to see so many families attend and having fun. All of these events help pay for other fun events for students and families - especially our End of Year Celebration. We appreciate the support! If you are an Arizona resident, we also alway appreciate your tax credit donations as well.
Please see the special section below about Flag Raising Ceremony and Media Day.
Please remind your student to be: Responsible, Respectful, Safe, and Kind!
Thank you,
Mr. Huss - Principal

Flag Raising Ceremony and Media Day
Friday November 8th we will be having our annual Veteran's Day Flag Raising ceremony with the DM Honor Guard and school performances. This will also coincide with a TUSD media day on campus. We are asking that all students wear the following clothing for both: solid tops in red, white, blue, purple(Purple Up month shirts), or Borman shirts. Since footage will be used for a school promotional video and photos, we cannot have any large visible brand names in it. We will also respect families that have opted out of their student being in any school related media. If you want to change that, please let us know. Otherwise we will use an identification system for the media team to later blur students or keep them out of the photography altogether. You are also always welcome to keep your student home that morning.

Safe Technology Use
A community member suggested that we include a safe technology use section in our family newsletter. While we do teach safe technology practices with our middle school students in technology class(since students take their school laptops home and typically have more access to personal technology), we also want to offer some resources for families with students of any age. For now, I will just share a link to Common Sense Media parent resources. In the future I may share more specific ideas.
From the Health Office
The Health Office would like to thank PTO for the generous donation of feminine hygiene products for our students.
Positions Needed:
Looking for a part time job? We have a couple of positions open:
- Campus monitor for before school and at lunch/recess (2.5 hours/day)
- Track Coaches for 4th quarter.
Student Drop-off/School Start and End Times/Traffic
Please remember, school starts at 8:20. Please do not drop your students off before 7:45 as we have no campus monitors on site until that time. Students that are dropped off before this are unsupervised and we cannot be responsible for something that might happen.
On Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, school ends at 2:30 for K-5 and 3:15 for 6-8. On Wednesday, school ends one hour earlier for teacher PD and planning. Please pick your students up promptly as our monitors leave soon after school ends each day.
Please be patient when dropping off or picking up your student/s in the round-about. Pull forward as far as you can and have your child exit or enter the vehicle as quickly as possible. If you are stuck in traffic along Lightning Drive, please do not drive down the opposite lane to go around. The jam usually moves along in a few minutes. Also, please do not park in the staff parking lot unless you have business in the front office. There is plenty of parking in the dirt outside of the staff lot and across the street.
