Happy New Year!

We are so excited to begin a new year with your students and our community. The weather is finally matching the season, so please bundle up and stay warm. With a new year comes new opportunities for new beginnings and fresh starts. Please encourage your students to start the year off strong in their attendance, academics and behaviors. We will have Success Assemblies this week to ensure students remember the school expectations. Together, I know that we will have a great Spring Semester!!

• If your student is needing immunizations, please contact our school nurse (dion.castaneda@nisd.net).
• For the 2024-2025 academic year, we have a new attendance/ absence policy. Parent/ Guardian written health excuses may only be accepted until the fifth absence of the year. Upon the student’s sixth health related absence, a doctor’s note must be provided.
• Remember, we are an AWAY for the DAY campus, so phones and earbuds must be Away for the School Day. Phones and earbuds can only be used during lunch and before/after school.
• Take a moment to review the dress code policy below.

Here are some reminders:

Students who are sick should stay home. A courtesy call to the attendance office and/or clinic is appreciated, and a note must always be turned in to be eligible for an absence to be excused. There is no more student remote conferencing or COVID absences. For more information, please refer to our district's COVID 19 information page.

The University Health Bus will be at the Shirley Schreiber Clinic on the Jones Middle School Campus to serve our community on January 10, 2025. If you are interested in your student getting their immunizations, you MUST do the following:

• Register online or call to make an appointment

• Parent must turn in a consent form to school nurse dion.castaneda@nisd.net

• Provide copy of vaccine records

Our AJMS PTA has two great accomplishments for the 2024-2025 Academic Year. We received the Texas PTA Golden Apple Award for have 100% PTA participation from Faculty and Staff, and our AJMS PTA is in Good Standing for this Academic Year.

I am excited to say that 100% of our teachers have joined the AJMS PTA, so please consider joining our PTA to support your student's educational experience.

All athletic game tickets are sold online.

Our 2024 basketball season begins on November 20, 2024

Game day tickets will be available for sale Monday at 8:00 am of each week of competitions.

Tickets can be purchased online only at https://www.nisd.net/district/athletics/middle-school-tickets

No tickets are sold at the gate/door.

Basketball games begin at 5:00 pm.

Students staying to watch the basketball game will need to wait in front of the school near the STEM entrance and sit on the benches until 15 minutes before the game starts and the "doors/gates" open for spectators.

**Students are directed to call/text their ride at 7:00 pm. Any student spectator not following all rules at any game, being disrespectful, leaving campus during the game, or being picked up after 7:30 pm will not be allowed to attend any future games.

This school year, Northside ISD has implemented a new policy to increase student responsibility for their mobile device chargers. As schools continue to distribute student devices, you may notice that your child’s charger is labeled with his/her name. This is intended to help your child keep track of their charger. Chargers must be returned with the student’s mobile device at the end of the school year or when withdrawing from the campus.

Below you will find best practices for maintaining your child’s charger:

• If the charger label is peeling or lifting, see a staff member to get it replaced.
• If the charger stops working, please see a staff member to get it replaced.
• Do not share the charger with other students.
• Keep the charger in a safe location to prevent it from being lost or stolen.

We have adopted the New Device Policy: AWAY FOR THE DAY. Our computer network is for educational use only, and having a device is a privilege, NOT a right. Phones and earbuds must be Away for the School Day. Phones and earbuds can only be used during lunch and before/after school.
