The eLeader
The official digital newsletter of La Porte ISD
Greetings, La Porte ISD Family.
Today is a great day to be a Bulldog! I hope that your Fall Break is relaxing and enjoyable. The extended weekend runs through tomorrow, and we look forward to seeing everyone on Tuesday, October 10. This past Friday, we honored the 2023 La Porte ISD Distinguished Alumni & Citizen class at the Bulldog Centre. Congratulations to Beth Brady, our 2023 Distinguished Citizen, and to Mike Clausen, Frank Nance and Bob Pizzitola, who are our 2023 Distinguished Alumni honorees. Read more about them here.
Our Bulldogs are beyond the halfway point of district play, and they have a 4-1 district record after a hard-fought game against state-ranked Port Arthur Memorial on Friday. We are back in Barbers Hill this Friday night to face Porter. Come join us as we fill the hill to cheer on our football team, band and color guard, Chatos, cheerleaders and student trainers. Our volleyball teams are at home this Friday with matches against Iowa Colony. Go Bulldogs and Lady Dawgs! Tickets for our athletic events are available here.
Superintendent Shout-outs
- I want to give a huge shout-out to the extraordinary La Porte High School students who– on their day off from school– helped make our Distinguished Alumni and Citizen Luncheon so wonderful. Students from the La Porte High School Orchestra performed for our guests; our JROTC presented flags and assisted with parking; and the senior class president and student council president led our pledge to the flags and our invocation. Many thanks to their advisors as well for coming in during their Fall Break. Our dedicated students and teachers are top-notch!
- Congratulations to the Mighty Bulldog Band and Color Guard, which placed sixth this weekend out of 22 bands in the Channelview Pre-UIL Marching Contest. They also finished in the top 10 at the U.S. Bands Houston Regional Marching Contest on September 30, with the highest score among 5A bands. Please join me in congratulating band members and their directors on their wonderful achievements!
Have a great week!

PSAT to be administered Oct. 18
La Porte High School will administer the Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test (PSAT) to sophomores and the PSAT/NMSQT (National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test) as an optional test for juniors on Oct. 18. The PSAT is an important instrument for students and staff to identify areas of strength and weakness as students prepare for college and career. The PSAT/NMSQT, while providing that same important information, also provides a great opportunity for students to earn college scholarships. For information on the tests and a variety of preparation tools. visit our PSAT/SAT/NMSQT page.
