Second Step
What are we learning this week?
5th Grade - Unit 3: Empathy and Kindness
Lesson 12: What's the Problem -In this lesson, your child will use empathy to identify problems in their school community and think about how these problems might affect other people. This is an important first step toward making positive change in the community.
Try this at home: Ask your child what problems they see in your neighborhood that affect other people. Point out how empathy helped them notice those problems.
6th Grade - Unit 2: Developing a Positive Sense of Self
Lesson 12: Thinking Short-Term and Long-Term -In this week’s lesson, your child will learn how to evaluate short-term and long-term feelings when making a decision using guiding principles.
Try this at home: Tell your child about a decision you made. Describe how it made you feel, both in the moment and after some time passed. Ask your child how short-term and long-term feelings can help them make decisions they feel good about.
7th Grade - Unit 2: Developing a Positive Sense of Self
Lesson 12: Your Future Self-Concept - In this week’s lesson, your child will envision their future self-concept, or how they want to see themselves in the future.
Try this at home: Ask your child what kind of person they want to become.
8th Grade - Unit 2: Developing a Positive Sense of Self
Lesson 12: Agency and Confidence - In this week’s lesson, your child will think of ways to build confidence as they transition to high school.
Try this at home: Ask your child about the confidence-building strategies that work best for them. Ask them what they’d like to feel more confident about as they transition to high school.
