DELRAN HIGH SCHOOL MISSION STATEMENT
Delran High School, an inclusive learning community, provides educational opportunities for intellectual development while valuing the importance of cultural diversity and tradition.
A Message from Mr. Finkle!
Hello DHS Community!
I hope that everyone had a good two weeks since the last broadcast! First a foremost, a HUGE thank you to Mrs. Berkoff and the entire PTA for the countless hours they put in to the Gift Basket Extravaganza which was the largest on record! The students and staff of Delran High School and Middle School all benefit from all of your hard work and it is much appreciated!
There are schedule changes next week (delayed opening for Grades 10 and 12) so please read the broadcast carefully!
NJSLA
NJSLA Testing will begin on Thursday, May 2nd for ALL 9th and 11th graders! All 10th and 12th graders will operate on a 2-hour delay. The 9th grade will be tested in ELA and the 11th grade will be taking the Science assessment. All 9th Graders and 11th Graders will be assigned to a classroom. This information will be posted in the cafeteria and outside of the main office early next week. We ask that all of our testers make sure that their Chromebook is CHARGED!!! In addition, please make sure that your child gets a good nights sleep and is ready to go!
Please note that the busses will only make one run for a 7:30 start time. If your child takes a bus and cannot make it to school on their own by 9:30, they should arrive normal time. We have teachers monitoring the cafeteria and auditorium and the students can relax for the two hours.
The 9th grade will be testing in Mathematics on Monday and Tuesday, the 6th and 7th; however, the school day will begin at 7:30 for all students. Since it is only the 9th grade testing, we will run our regular schedule and the students testing will be sequestered into one area of the school where it will be quiet.
AP Testing
AP Testing will begin on Monday, May 6th. The entire testing schedule can be found on our webpage. Testing will take place at the BOE office and in our Media Center. Your child will be told where to report. I wish the best of luck to all of our testers!!!! I know you will be prepared to ace these exams!
Take Your Child to Work Day
Take your child to work day is a date that the New Jersey Department of Education has deemed as an excused day for students. Please make sure that your child has a note, on company letterhead, stating that they were with you at work and participated in TYCTW day activities. These notes should be given to Mrs. Brock or emailed to dhsoffice@delranschools.org.
National Decision Day
Wednesday, May 1st is National Decision Day. National College Decision Day, also known as College Signing Day, is the first day of May each year. On this day, high school seniors who applied and were accepted into one or more colleges must confirm their enrollment with the school of their choice. This confirmation is usually attached to an enrollment deposit.
We encourage the members of the Class of 2024 to wear the gear of their college choice on Wednesday, May 1st!
Academic Awards Night
Our Annual Academic Awards Night will take place on Thursday, May 2nd at 6:30 PM in the PAC. Congratulations to all of the winners. These awards(Principal's Awards and #1 Club) are given by clubs and activities as well as our top academic awards given by the departments. In addition, we recognize State Championships (#1 Club), students who earned the Principal's List each of the first 3 marking periods. We also, at that time, name our Salutatorian (#2) and Valedictorian (#1) of the Class of 2024.
FAFSA
On Monday May 13th, Senator Troy Singleton is once again bringing the Higher Education Student Assistance Authority to help parents and students with the FAFSA form! The program, held in partnership with the Burlington County Library System, will start at 5:30pm and will be held at the Burlington County Main Library, 5 Pioneer Blvd, Westampton. RSVP here https://www.troysingleton.com/senator_troy_singleton_and_hesaa_fafsa_workshop. HERE is an information flyer.

Post-Graduation Survey - Help Requested
Within the next two weeks senior students will complete a post-graduation survey in their English/ESL classes. Student responses on this survey will help us to create an accurate and thorough graduation program. Students continuing their education will be required to upload a digital copy of their acceptance letter and proof of any scholarship received. Please help your student by helping to organize these documents at home so they are prepared to upload when completing their survey in class. Please contact your child’s counselor with any questions or concerns.
Free Application for Financial Aid (FAFSA): NOW AVAILABLE
The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), a necessary form for any student seeking financial assistance to further their education in the 2024-2025 school year, is now available on a limited basis.
Students are strongly encouraged to actively manage their various application portals for school-specific announcements and direction related to financial aid.
Scholarship Opportunities
Students can supplement any federal, state and institutional aid that they may qualify for with private and corporate scholarships. Goingmerry.com and fastweb.com are reliable scholarship search engines. Local scholarships will be publicized by the Guidance Department throughout the year.
See below under the Scholarship Spotlight for information on The Dennis J. Grigioni Scholarship, this award is specific to Delran High School student.
The College Board BigFuture: Well-Being
Although high school graduation is a time of great accomplishment and excitement, it can also mark a potentially stressful life transition for students. The College Board’s BigFuture platform is an excellent resource for students seeking social-emotional support during their transition from high school to college and career.
Class of 2025

Prospective College Athletes
Delran High School is proud of its athletic traditions and success. Students hoping to incorporate athletics in their college search should familiarize themselves with the NCAA’s eligibility requirements and recruiting protocols.
The NCAA’s Guide for the College Bound Student Athlete is a great resource.

All New Jersey minors are required to have working papers as a condition of employment. Working papers have been available for pick-up in the Main Office. Beginning on June 1, 2023 working papers will only be accessible online and will be handled by employers and prospective minor employees, not the school. More specific information can be found here.

SPECTATOR’S CODE (Family & Friends)
The larger school community has an interest and investment in the success of our Athletic Program. These adults play a key role in reinforcing the educational goals of our program. Therefore, we expect these important program supporters to do the following:
- Be a positive role model through their behavior at athletic contests.
- Show respect for the opposing players, coaches, spectators, and support groups.
- Be respectful of all officials’ decisions.
- Recognize and show appreciation for an outstanding play by either team.
- Praise student-athletes in their attempt to improve themselves as students, as athletes, and as people.
- Gain an understanding and appreciation for the rules of the sport.
- Reinforce our alcohol, tobacco, and other drug-free policies by refraining from the use of any such substances before and during athletic contests.
- Remember that admission to a school athletic event is a privilege to observe the contest.
The Delran Girls Lacrosse team came together on senior night on April 24th to defeat Timber Creek 9-5. It was a team effort and the Bears showed that they are able to play an entire game with effort and determination. The Bears will host Haddon Heights on April 27th at 10am followed by an away contest against Moorestown Friends on April 30th.
The Delran Boys Lacrosse team has been riddled with injuries this season but were able to come away with an 8-5 victory at Timber Creek on April 24th. The Bears continue to fight and will be able to compete with the tougher teams in the BCSL once they are back to full strength. The Bears will travel to Cinnaminson on April 26th and then host Moorestown Friends on April 29th for senior night. Game time is 6:00pm.
The Delran Softball team defeated rival Burlington Township on April 23rd with a final score of 5-1. The Bears have been in every single game and when they play a complete game, they can compete with anyone in South Jersey. The Bears were able to put an upset against the top seeded West Deptford Eagles on April 20th in the Eastern Tournament. The Bears will host WWP United on Friday, April 26th and then travel to Hamilton West on April 29th.
The Delran Baseball team is experiencing the ups and downs of the game of baseball. The Bears could easily be undefeated but some unfortunate plays and injuries have put the Bears in a situation where they have to work as a team and get back on the winning track. The Bears will be hosting the annual Papa Bear Tournament this Saturday, April 27th. The Bears will host Doane Academy, while Pennington will play against Seneca at Notre Dame field. First games are at 10:00am. The championship and consolation games will be the same day at 1:00pm. Next week the Bears will host Northern Burlington on April 29th followed by an away matchup with Williamstown on May 1st.
The Delran Track team continues to improve on their individual times and scores. The Delran Girls Track team was able to defeat Bordentown on April 23rd. The Delran Boys Track team has been very close in both of their dual meets but look to get their first win on May 7th when the Bears host Pemberton for their senior meet. The students are working hard and their improving every day on the track and in their field events.
The Delran Golf team was able to defeated Pennsauken once again and is currently 4-8. Their scores have been improving each time on the course and their loses have been by a few strokes. The Bears will travel to The Links in Marlton to play against Cherry Hill West and Cinnaminson on April 26th. The Bears will then compete against Holy Cross on April 30th at the Rancocas Golf Club.
The Delran Boys Tennis team welcomed Pemberton onto their last week and quickly earned the 5-0 victory. The Bears are currently 2-4 but have several matchups coming up that could bring this team back to a winning record. The Bears will compete against Nottingham on April 26 and then host Florence on April 29th.
The Delran Unified Track team had their first meet on April 24th at Pennsauken. The students had a blast and are looking forward to hosting their meet on April 29th. This meet will include Cherry Hill West, Pennsauken, Cinnaminson, and Moorestown. Come out and support this special group of student-athletes.
