The Second Plane of Development
Ages 6 -12
The years from ages six to twelve,
- · Students are old enough to follow through with actions and analyze the task at hand
- · Humor is an important part of communicating and helps build relationships
- · The sensitive periods for this age have to do with morality and recognition of the group
4 areas we need to consider for this age group- moral and spiritual, physical, social and emotional, and cognitive:
- · Physically children are resilient in terms of health- good appetites and more open to trying new foods
- · Cognitively they retain information through experiential activities- reasoning mind
- · Moral and spiritually- children want to fit in and conform to group standards- passionate about rules
- · Social and emotional- children expect consistency, interested in what their peers are up to and want to be liked by others
