A Note from Dr. Brown
Greetings Parents and Guardians!
Thanks for another wonderful week! Thank you to Ms. O’Rear, Ms. Royal, Ms. Torres Ramos, and Ms. Spivey for hosting a fantastic SEL parent night on Zoom. They gave meaningful tips, tricks, and strategies for parents. It was very meaningful.
If you have small children-birth to five years old, please bring them for Play 2 Learn classes every Wednesday morning. Please email Ms. Lyndsey Cann for more information.
Please scroll all the way down to see what is happening in our wonderful school. Pay close attention to the Denim and Diamonds information. You don’t want to miss this special event as well as others to come!
Remember, I am always here for our Woodward Mill family. Communication is key. Feel free to email or call with concerns or questions.
Your Thankful Principal,
Dr. Brown

Character Trait of the Month
Each month, we focus on a different character trait. The character trait for the month of January is Citizenship. Citizenship means trying to make the school and community a better place. Citizenship is an important character trait for our students to exhibit, as we are all a part of a community. Teachers will be looking for students that exhibit this trait during January to be recognized as the “Cub of the Month” with a certificate and free ice cream!
SEL Parent Night
Thank you to the families that participated in the SEL Parent Night on Tuesday. We are so thankful to be able to serve our community, and help our students and families. The presentation and additional resources will be available on the website soon.
College and Career Day
We haven't been able to host this event in years, but this year our College and Career Day is scheduled for March 31st. This day will give students the opportunity to learn about nearby colleges and careers from individuals that can speak first-hand about their daily experiences. No book can teach them that!
We would love for you to come to our College and Career Day! The actual event is 8:30am-10:30am. Please let us know if you would like to speak to our students. You can email Chavonne O’Rear at chavonne.orear@gcpsk12.org for more information or to volunteer.
Spotlight on Georgia Picture Book Nominees
My First Day by Phung Nguyen Quang and Huynh Kim Lien
An, a young Vietnamese boy who lives on the Mekong Delta, has to paddle his small wooden boat to school all by himself for the very first time. This picture book is a visually stunning work that focuses on courage, determination, and resilience.
January 1-31, 2023
It’s time to cozy up with a good book! Be sure to read and log at least 300 minutes during the month of January!
Students will login to Beanstack using their GCPS student number and their birthday month and date (MMDD) as their password. Students are able to log reading minutes either on their laptop or on a mobile device.
Refer to the media center link of the school website for helpful resources to get your child started with Beanstack. Contact Jennifer.Alden@gcpsk12.org if you have any questions about this digital reading program.
