Dr. Rachel Williams, Principal
From the Principal
Dear Parents:
This week I had the pleasure of meeting with our vertical principals and Milton Police. We met as a team to discuss traffic patterns around our area schools. I'll be the first to admit the congestion in our area is extremely frustrating for everyone.
We discussed some big picture solutions that may be executed later, but in the meantime, I need your help. Beginning Monday, we will no longer allow parents to pull into the bus lot entrance to drop kids off in our front parking lot. If you want to drive and walk in with your child, the church parking lot is available and there is a crossing guard for your safety. This will be the only option you have moving forward and we will place staff outside to monitor this area. Milton Police expressed that this hinders traffic because we then have parents pulling out of two of our lots instead of one. Regular carpool is encouraged or bus transportation.
As you also know, there is a road closure behind Henry & Pearl. This is due to the construction in that area. Please note, you can still cut through this area as well as through the Braeburn neighborhood. There does not seem to be relief coming for the red light intersection by the Shell station. I've personally sat there after school through about five light changes some days. Eventually, there will be another lane at the red light for people turning, but that is not expected until the end of 2017.
The roundabout is slated to be completed by summer, but with remaining problems at the red light, I'm sure this will impact the roundabout. We asked about an officer being placed at the light; however, Milton Police has several vacancies at this time and simply do not have the manpower.
As the discussions continue, I will keep you abreast of changes. Have a great weekend. I look forward to seeing you all next Friday at our annual dance and basket raffle.
Literacy Lunch and Learn - March 1st, 2017
This month at our lunch and learn, we will be discussing the bands of text complexity. If you have questions about the characteristics of readers at the varying F & P levels, this would be a great opportunity for you to come and get some insight. We will also have some time for open questions if you have any other literacy related concerns. Come to the book room from 11 - 12 and bring your lunch if you would like!
