Dear Bridgeport Families,

It has been a challenging week for many of us. I hope that you are well and have had a chance to talk with your student regarding the news about the student death earlier this week. Thank you to all those who have offered support to our staff as we have navigated this tragedy. I am so grateful for the privilege to work in this amazing community.

Here are some other important updates:

Boundary Change

On Monday the school board approved a boundary change for the 24-25 school year that will transfer a number of families from the Durham attendance area to the Bridgeport attendance area. I am working alongside district staff to ensure there is adequate space here at Bridgeport and that we make this transition as smooth as possible. We are thrilled to welcome these new families!

Summer Meet & Greets

Please join me in welcoming our new families to Bridgeport! All of our current Bridgeport families are invited to meet our new Bridgeport families for popsicles on the playground this summer! Siblings are welcome to attend on days that are not targeted for their grade level. Here are the dates:

• Kinder & 1st grade: Tuesday, August 20 from 4-5 on the Bridgeport playground

• 2nd & 3rd grade: Wednesday, August 21 from 4-5 on the Bridgeport playground

• 4th & 5th grade: Thursday, August 22 from 4-5 on the Bridgeport playground

Upcoming Lockdown Drill

On Thursday, April 18 Bridgeport staff and students will practice for a lockdown in the case of an emergency. Please remind your students that this is just a drill and that practicing helps make our school safer. We will prepare students with this information ahead of time and debrief afterwards using this slideshow and these teaching points. Please do not hesitate to reach out if you have questions about the drill itself or the safety measures that we have in place at Bridgeport.

Ha sido una semana desafiante para muchos de nosotros. Cambio de límites

Creature Zoo inspired by Mike Bennett

Celebrating Earth Day

Portland-based artist Mike Bennett is known for creating interactive art displays and immersive art experiences and a passion for bringing cartoon creatures into the real world using reclaimed wood and old house paint. In celebration of Earth Day this month, students will use modeling clay and their imaginations to bring their own creatures to life during their next Art Literacy Project during their specials class on Friday, April 19th.

Bridgeport's Art Literacy is a program of the Bridgeport PTO.
