Hansen Weekly Update
Feb. 9th, 2025
Hello Hansen Families,
After plenty of cold winter weather, we've finally had our first snow day as well, breaking up our week a little. This week we also began exploring Black History Month - see pictures below - and students learned about famous African-Americans who made their mark in history.
On Friday, we also celebrated our 100th day of the school year, with a Kindergarten Parade, students and staff dressing up, lessons using the number 100, and interactive exercise breaks throughout the day, that equaled '100' repetitions by the end!
Parents, as a reminder, STAR family reports were sent home Friday in students’ backpacks. Please be sure to review the information you received in those envelopes, thank you. Also, the updated 2024-25 school year calendar is on the CPS website (in the blue banner) and on the Hansen webpage -under the calendar tab at the top of the page. The update to the current 2024-25 school calendar reflects the one-day shift of the last day of school for all grades PreK-11 due to yesterday's snow day. Also, the 2025-26 school year calendar is now available on the CPS webpage.
Other reminders are that we have an early release day on Wednesday, Feb. 12th, and February vacation starts after we leave school this Friday, and ends when we return to school again on Monday, Feb. 24th at 8:20 a.m.
Thank you,
Paul McKnight

Celebrating Black History Month!
Last week a Black History Month mural created by Mrs. Cole and her students was put on display in Hansen’s main level hallway, featuring many past and present African-Americans, detailing their accomplishments and contributions to society.
This Black History Month mural was created by staff and students in Miss Keohane’s classroom for Hansen's main hallway in our upstairs area. It highlights some of the groundbreaking traits demonstrated by famous African-Americans.

Over the coming weeks, we will work together by asking friends and family to consider making a donation to support our school by visiting MyBooster.com. The best part is, you can support our school just by SHARING about the fundraiser!
