VOGELTOWN SCHOOL PANUI
TE KURA O HUATOKI. TERM 2, WEEK 10, 2024.
KIA ORA VOGELTOWN WHĀNAU!
Kia ora koutou parents and whanau,
I hope this message finds you well and looking forward to some quality time during the school holidays. As I reflect on my first couple of months as the principal of Vogeltown School I am grateful for the warm welcome and support I have received from the entire school community.
Transitioning into a new role, especially one as significant as this, can be both exciting and challenging. However, the kindness extended my way and willingness to help have made my transition smooth and enjoyable. From the friendly smiles and hellos about the place, to conversations with parents, to the helpful guidance and collaboration of staff, each gesture has made a difference in some way.
I am grateful to the staff for their dedication to their roles and to the children of our school, to our parents for their trust and involvement, to the Board for their determination to improve outcomes for everyone, and to our tamariki for the enthusiasm they bring to school each day. Together, we are all part of a nurturing environment and special place to learn.
As we enter the second half of the year I'm looking forward to continuing our journey together, and working alongside you all to ensure the best possible outcomes for our students. Thank you once again for your support and for making me feel so welcome at Vogeltown School.
Mā te wā! See you later!

PAETOKI SPEECH FINALS
Our recent school speeches final was nothing short of fantastic! They covered a wide range of topics from the mysteries of black holes and the power of spreading positivity to the great homework debate and concerns about vaping. Our speakers truly outdid themselves. Each child brought their A-game, captivating the audience with humour, expression, passion and information.
A huge congratulations to all the finalists for their hard work and dedication. Here are the well-deserved winners:
1st Place: Arden Hunt
2nd Place: Lacey Pitcairn
3rd Equal: Beah Schoeman and Ava Ackerman
The audience loved every minute of it, and we couldn't be prouder of our talented students. Well done, everyone!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY VOGELTOWN SCHOOL!
109 years old and still going strong!
WELCOME TO OUR NEWEST TEACHER
We are pleased to announce the appointment of Holly McLeod to our team. She will be teaching in our new entrant hub. Holly brings a wealth of experience from the early childhood sector and has also served as a relief teacher at Vogeltown School. We are excited about the combination of skills and perspectives she brings to this role, and we are confident that she will quickly transition into the class. Please join us in welcoming Holly to our team!
TERM 3 LEARNING CONFERENCES
Our learning conferences are being held on Wednesday 24 July from 2:30 pm to 7:15 pm, and on Thursday 25 July from 2:30 pm to 6:15 pm. We will arrange for supervision of our learners on both of these days from 2:30pm until 3:00pm. You can book your interviews using the Skool Loop App - instructions on how to book are below.
These learning conferences are really important to discuss your child's progress and to set learning goals for the coming term. We always aim for 100% attendance at these learning conferences.
If you have trouble using the Skool Loop app then please call the school office to book a time.
ATTENDANCE AT SCHOOL
Attendance at school is an important ingredient for success with learning and also maintaining a positive attitude towards school. Days away from school makes it difficult for teachers to deliver programmes where there is continuity of learning. They also need to make decisions around whether to leave work unfinished or to revisit material for children who are away and either way, there are consequences that affect the teacher, the child who has been absent, or others in the class.
We ask that parents ensure children attend school regularly, inform the school of any absence (and communicate the reason for this), and have children at school in plenty of time to get settled for the start of the day.
We’re keen to work with you to ensure all children have access to regular learning. If you have any aspects of attendance that you need to discuss, I recommend making a time to talk with your child’s teacher.
PROSPECTIVE STUDENTS
It is important that we know if you have a child starting school sometime in the remainder of this year. This will allow us to put organisation in place for new students - especially those starting school, and to understand our predicted roll throughout the year.
You can do this by contacting the office to confirm that we have your child on our records, or by completing an enrolment form (which can be collected from the school or downloaded off our website).
If you know of anyone else living in zone that may be looking to enrol then please share this message with them.
