PARENT SEMINAR---Be Smart: Transportation, Mobility, & the MiABLE Program
Parents, guardians, special education providers, please join us to learn about community transportation solutions from Dan Whitehouse and Leslie Verstraete of Suburban Mobility Authority for Regional Transportation (SMART). Orientation and Mobility Specialist, Stacy White-Masi, will be also part of the transportation conversation. The other half of our informational evening will be R. Scott de Varona representing the Michigan Achieving a Better Life Experience (MiABLE) program.

Michigan Rehabilitation Services
Michigan Rehabilitation Services (MRS) offers five types of pre-employment transition services:
1. Job Exploration
2. Work-Based Learning Experience
3. Counseling on Postsecondary Education
4. Workplace Readiness Training
5. Self-Advocacy Training, including Peer Mentoring
MRS also offers many, many more ways to collaborate with families, students, and IEP Teams to ensure a successful future in addition to pre-employment services.

Each high school has an MRS counselor assigned to it that can attend a student's IEP Team meeting. Talk with the MRS counselor about additional opportunities.
Learn about Michigan Career and Technical Institute, which provides individualized career development, education, training, and support services for individuals with disabilities preparing for and engaging in competitive integrated employment. Macomb Inter-Agency Transition Council Meetings
The Macomb Inter-Agency Transition Council meets from 12:30 - 2:30 pm four to five times per year at the Macomb ISD Educational Services Center at 44001Garfield. These meetings are open to county transition coordinators and community agency partners that assist with post-school activities, including post-secondary education, vocational education, integrated employment, adult services, community participation, and independent living.
The purpose of the meetings is to plan school professional development, plan parent seminars on transition topics, provide one another guidance on federal and state transition updates, and trouble-shoot transition-related issues in the county.
The last scheduled transition council meeting is 5-15-24, 12:30-2:30pm, room 206. Macomb County Community Mental Health will be joining us from 12:30-1pm and the rest of the time will be used to plan for the 2024-25 school year.
