Welcome to ESOL at BES!
We look forward to a fantastic year of learning and fun! The ESOL Kindergarten teachers are Mrs. Anderson, Mrs. Delgado, and Mrs. McCranie. We're thrilled to be a part of the first year of your child's educational journey! The ESOL teachers work directly with all teachers to provide high-quality instruction. We are also committed to establishing a connection with the ESOL families in our school district. We are currently in the process of screening students to determine if they will be eligible for ESOL services. Once we start meeting in our ESOL classes, we look forward to building a great learning community together. We know it's going to be a great year together and we're excited to see all of the students grow in their English language skills. Please feel free to email us with any questions!

Welcome Buford Academy ESOL Families!
Welcome to all of our ESOL families for the 2024-2025 school year! We are already busy at work serving your child's language needs in their class each day. This year, we are focusing on Writing and Speaking, with a greater emphasis and look forward to seeing the growth and progress that happens along the way! We want to thank the families who attended Curriculum Night and hope that you found the information in our sessions helpful. Remember-your child may work on the Wolf Wall at home using his/her tablet or computer. From the Wolf Wall, they can click on Reading Eggs and work on their track at home. We want to see who can collect the most GOLDEN EGGS!!
Please also be looking for your child's ESOL teacher to communicate important information via Talking Points, which is easily accessible on your phone through text or app download. Feel free to reach out to us anytime that you need your child. We look forward to an exciting year in ESOL!

Buford Senior Academy
Welcome to Buford Senior Academy!
We are your ESOL teachers at Buford Senior Academy! This school year has been a big change for some of our students. The third graders are now at the Senior Academy! In addition to welcoming our third-grade students to the building, we would also like to welcome Mandie Johnson to the ESOL team. She has been teaching ESOL at Buford Academy for the last 3 years. We are so happy to have Mrs. Johnson with us.
We enjoyed meeting many of you during the Open House & Curriculum Night. Our students, new and returning, have had a great start to the school year.
Third graders are adjusting well to navigating BSA! As they are improving their reading and writing English language skills, they are also improving their independence.
In 4th and 5th grades, we are working hard on our English skills! We enjoy the challenge of preparing for the ACCESS test by recording ourselves answering speaking prompts on the computer. It’s also fun to check our reading comprehension of a book by playing “Find the Fib!” After reading a book, the students write down two truths and one lie and try to trick the other groups with their careful writing. Try it at home with your favorite book!
You can help your child at home by helping them read a little every night. They can read their library books or log onto MyOn (from Canvas) to read more books. We look forward to a wonderful school year.
Buford Middle School
Welcome Back to School!
We have had an incredible start to the school year. We are in full motion learning reading, writing, and grammar skills. The students have checked out two books from the library, one fiction, and one nonfiction. They should be reading at home for at least 20 minutes daily.
In 6th grade, we are learning about Cesar Chavez and his fight for justice for migrant workers. "Si Se Puede!" In 7th grade, we are learning about Nelson Mandela and his fight against apartheid. In 8th grade, we started our class novel, "Ground Zero," by the famous author Alan Gratz.
Picture Day was today and everybody smiled beautifully. We've had our Behavior Rewards Day for the 7th and 8th-grade students. It was quite a success. Tomorrow, the 6th grade students will join in on the fun. It encourages the students to behave and not earn a behavior mark. Please ask your student about this reward.
Thank you for your endless support!
Buford High School
Welcome to ESOL at Buford High School
Welcome ESOL students! BHS ESOL students are already hard at work! Mrs. Fouquette's class has been working on a short story unit. The students enjoyed "The Most Dangerous Game" by Richard Conelly. The students were inspired to create their animals and to write and illustrate a story about their new animals. Ms. Heindel's classes have been reading and discussing "Eleven" by Sandra Cisneros. They have been learning about similes and figurative language. American Literature classes have just completed a unit on Native American literature and read creation myths from various tribes.
Benchmark week is right around the corner (September 9-13). Please check your student's grades on PowerSchool to make sure they have at least a 70 in their classes. If you click on their grade, it will give you a list of completed and missing assignments.
Free tutoring and bus transportation are available in the Media Center every Wednesday from 3:00 - 4:00.
