Message from Principal David Ewers
Welcome to another big week at the Brickhouse. This week we have the Winter assembly, parent-teacher conferences, and the crowning of the 2022 Northman! Also, I want to sincerely thank our student body for an outstanding SMSD Kindness week last week! Our kids were great, and it was so nice to see all of the nice notes and acts of kindness. Let's have a great week and Go Bison!

NEWS & UPDATES FROM SM NORTH
Parent Teacher Conference 2/3/22 5:00pm-8:00pm
Parents and Guardians,
In order to attend conferences on February 3rd, 5:00-8:00PM, you must schedule your conferences in Skyward ahead of time. If you show up to conferences without a scheduled time, we will be unable to accommodate you. We realize that with only certain time slots available, there may not be one that works for you (or perhaps the teacher's schedule has already been filled). In cases such as this, please work directly with the classroom teacher to schedule a time to conference with them outside of the February date.
You can find staff email addresses here.
A few additional details:
- Please sign up for only one 10 minute conference per teacher. If you need additional time scheduled, please work with the individual teacher to schedule a time outside of the evening of February 3rd.
- Since you once again have a choice between conferencing in person (at SMN) or conferencing via WebEx, please make sure that you notify teachers if you plan to attend on WebEx so they can send you their WebEx link.
- Translators can be schedule by emailing Maria Diaz at marialorenzana@smsd.org
- Parents will schedule conferences through Skyward. Directions on how to do this are included here.
- Directions to Sign Up:
- Log into your parent account in Skyward. https://skyward.smsd.org/
- Click on “Conferences” on the left hand navigation
- Click on “All Conferences”
- Click on “Select a Time” for the class you would like to schedule a conference for
- Find the time slot that works for you to have the conference and click “Select” and then “Save”
- You will repeat this process for each teacher/class that you would like to schedule.
- You will then receive an email for each time slot you select for your student.
- WebEx conference can be scheduled by corresponding with your student’s teacher(s).

REQUIRED VACCINATIONS
Thank you to all parents who have turned in updated vaccination records for our SMN students!
We still have quite a few students who are missing at least one vaccine.
Please help us out in the nurse’s office and send any updated vaccine records to valsnow@smsd.org .
Our next exclusion date for SMSD is coming up quickly in January.
PLEASE, if you’ve been emailed or contact by phone about a missing vaccine, try to get that done as soon as possible.
Our Johnson County Health Department is a good resource for updating vaccines, as is Walgreens, CVS, Mercy and Truth Clinics.
Vaccines can also be obtained at our Health Partnership Clinic at SMW on Thursdays during clinic hours from 11am to 3pm
If you need help contacting any of these businesses, please call us at 913-993-6907 or 913-993-6916.
Stay warm and healthy everyone!!
And, as always, thank you for sharing your amazing children with us!!
Nurse Kelly and Ms. Snow.
Food Deliveries from Door Dash, Uber Eats, etc. are not allowed at SM North. Please encourage your student to refrain from ordering food for delivery. The delivery drivers will be turned away due to not having proper approved identification and this becoming a logistical issue. We appreciate your help in this matter.
Calling All Angels! See Above
Each year, we have been blessed enough to have generous folks who come forward to sponsor a Shawnee Mission North yearbook for a child who otherwise wouldn't be getting one.
In the last few weeks, I've had children approach me about how to get a Shawnee Mission North yearbook when they can't afford to get one.
It's for this very purpose that our Shawnee Mission North Yearbook Angel program exists. You can purchase a 2022 yearbook and we will get it into the hands of a deserving student.
To become a yearbook angel simply:
1) Go Online at www.yearbookforever.com
2) For Yearbook Angel sponsorships, enter “Yearbook” for student first name, “Angel” for last name, and “Staff” for grade. We will make sure it goes to a deserving student.
If you have any questions, please contact yearbook adviser Becky Tate at notate@smsd.org

Athletic Update
- The varsity boys basketball lost in overtime at Washington on Friday night. 64-68. Bison were led in scoring by Randall Bolderidge with 16, Logan Oberle 13 points 9 rebounds, Jacob Hines 13 points 4 assist, and Jaylen Gray with 11 points and 8 rebounds.
- The varsity girls’ basketball team played in the Glazer Tournament this past week at Topeka High. The girls lost to Topeka Seaman and Topeka Highland and beat BV Southwest. North plays at Gardner Edgerton on Tuesday and will return to the Fieldhouse Friday to play Olathe North.
- The Bowling Bison had a busy week with 3 meets last week. Tuesday, we traveled to Royal Crest Lanes in Lawrence and bowled against OE, ONW and ON. We had a bit of a rough day on the lanes as both teams took 4th while the ladies were led by Senior Alyssa Williams with a 509 series and the boys led by Freshman Aaron Salvino with a 550 series. Wednesday, we bowled at Olathe Lanes East bowling against Leavenworth, BV North and Olathe West. Both teams took 3rd place with Senior Alyssa Williams taking 1st individually with a 600 series and 4th place individually for the boys was Freshman Aaron Salvino with his high 628! Thursday had us traveling out to Belton, Missouri to bowl a couple of BV schools. BVNW hosted while BVSW joined in on the meet. After a lot of lane issues and finally a move to another set of lanes for the Varsity Boys team, they rallied to a 2nd place team finish led again by Freshman Aaron Salvino with a 583 series who was 1st individually for the meet. The Lady Bison also took 2nd place for the team and were led again by Senior Alyssa Williams and was 1st individually! Sophomore Lily DeBoe was back and took 1st for the JV girls. This next week, we have a meet on Tuesday, February 1st at Park Lanes starting at 3:00!
- Boys Swim and Dive - Congrats to the North Bison Swim and Dive team for another great performance Tuesday night against SM South. The highlights include North taking 1st through 5 places in the diving! Henry Duff placed first, followed very closely by Senior Cris Garcia, who finished with over 189 points! Leading the swimmers was Seniors, Cameron Lee and Zach Setzkorn. Lee missed the school record in the 100 Backstroke by only 3 tenths of a second as he destroyed the field in taking first. He also swam a season best time in the 100 Free with another dominant victory. Setzkorn dropped almost three seconds in his 100 Freestyle to smash his personal best time. The most impressive race of the night had to be junior Gage Chapman in the 500 Freestyle. Gage dropped over 20 seconds in his 500 Freestyle, snatching a solid 2nd place. We also had some great drops in the 100 Back and 100 Breaststroke races. Then on Friday Night, North battled to the last second to pull out a hard fought come-from-behind team victory over Olathe West, Piper and Olathe North. Individual winners included Cameron Lee and Junior Lopez. Gage Chapman dropped a lot more time in his 200 IM to place 2nd. Jonathan Guild and Porter Lee also had great meets, as they easily set PR’s in the 100 Freestyle. The winning 400 Free Relay at the end of the night included Lopez, Guild, Jack Nely and Cameron Lee, with the 3rd fastest time of the season. Congrats to all the Bison swimmers and divers on an impressive victory and team effort.
